Athletics: The athletics programs are nice, but not elite. The facilities are great!

5 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Youngstown State University is a quality school. It has engaging, approachable professors who are willing to help you succeed. The campus is nice, but small enough you don't need a transit system.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I feel safe on campus , parking garages are always well lit. And campus police are always visible.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: It's been a great experience, I feel I adjusted better then I hope for. Most of the professors were very helpful, shared email addresses which made keeping on top of things very easy. The size of the classes were much larger then I was use to coming from a private school.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: The facility are beautiful they are newer, and they in courage everyone to use them at no cost.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: My first year of college was challenging. You work completely independent, unlike high school. No one is pushing you to meet dead lines . I really had to develop study habits and homework time that were consistent to my life style.Over all it was a great experience l really learned a lot about myself.

2 College Junior

Party Scene: I don't know anything about the party scene at all.

2 College Junior

Party Scene: There's no obvious party scene going on at all throughout the university

3 College Junior

Academics: It really just depends on the professor. It's really worth it to look up all the professors teaching a course first and then planning your schedule around the professor who's least likely to be a total dick. Even if that means your on campus for 12 hours a day. It's worth it.

2 College Junior

Diversity: Very little diversity on campus. Most of the diverse students are in graduate programs.

3 College Junior

Drug Safety: Very harsh on the alcohol policies.

2 College Junior

Health & Safety: I've been chased around a parking lot by a homeless man trying to lick my face, so I wouldn't say it's really the SAFEST campus.

3 College Junior

Overall Experience: It really could just BE better, but it feels like the administration doesn't care about their students and only wants to profit off them as much as possible to boost their own self righteousness.

3 College Junior

Overall Experience: I've personally never had an internship or have been given job prospect options.

3 College Junior

Campus Housing: The housing is actually rather attractive depending on the building you live in, however it's seriously overpriced. Living on campus is more expensive than tuition.

3 College Junior

Greek Life: I don't know anything about the greek life on my campus

3 College Junior

Athletics: The sports are overrated and YSU spends too much money on them, and not on the academic aspect of student life.

3 College Junior

Overall Experience: The main problem is that nobody gives you the information you need to actually graduate on time with the classes you want/need to take. Scheduling is kind of like the hunger games and certain classes are offered only in the spring or only in the fall so you have to be seriously thoughtful about your graduation plan when choosing classes each semester. Harass your department for information, otherwise you'll never know anything until your senior year. Getting a job on campus helps a lot with scheduling too.

Other than that, YSU is a nice place to be. It's not overwhelming as far as campus size but still has enough available that you're not always sitting in the same place or eating the same exact food all the time. Campus is pretty nice to look at when green. Many of the professors are very helpful and want to see their students succeed but there's a good chance you'll come across a few that are just trying to boost their own egos.

The administration doesn't care about the students, but for $9000 a year, it is what it is.

3 College Junior

Overall Experience: There were some very poor quality classes and teachers, and there were some amazing teachers as well. It really is a wide spectrum to speak about. But I would say ive expirianced more good classes than bad.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: My student advisors are really good people. I get a lot of help from them and many other professionals on campus. I feel I can get help from almost any center on campus.

3 College Junior

Health & Safety: There is a police station right next to campus. I feel safe on camus and even near campus.

3 College Junior

Campus Housing: I dont know any other college housing to compare it to, however I would say it's very average.

4 College Junior

Greek Life: The Greek life makes the social atmosphere fun! I am non greek but I did consider joining before I got a part time job in freshman year. If I had more time it would be something I might partake in.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: Youngstown State is a great public school. There is a good atmosphere here and most of the instructors are wonderful.

4 College Freshman

Party Scene: It's great because they are never inappropriate. They're just fun

Many local high school students do not bother applying to YSU because they consider it a second-rate college that's too close to home. These students do not know what they are missing! College is only what the student makes of it, and YSU will fully satisfy students who put forth an effort into their college experience. Many current students find themselves pleasantly and unexpectedly surprised that they are actually enjoying their time on campus. As time passes, more and more people are recognizing that YSU is truly a great university.

The campus itself is pristine and gorgeous; the landscaping is well-done, and the architectural structures are being renovated to project a modern, artistic look. Walking to class on a sunny spring morning, students often find themselves stopping in wonder to gaze at the flowers and trees. A lovely atmosphere enhances the students' love for the institution and even the subject matter in classes. An important advantage for YSU's students is the high quality of their instructors and professors. Most of the professors, staff, and assistants are extremely helpful, challenging, and engaging. Some benefits include networking with professionals in various venues, developing competitive skills, and utilizing wonderful hands-on experiences in the field. YSU provides its graduates with running leaps into the future for a price that few other schools can match.
