Greek Life: They throw great parties but are also involved with the community. Prices are expensive.

3 College Senior

Off-Campus Housing: Some very nice apartments to stay in but those are expensive. Others are poor quality and may still be expensive.

4 College Senior

Off-Campus Dining: There are plenty of off campus dining places that are delicious and many are not too costly.

3 College Senior

Administration: Some professors get away with treating students unfairly and creating an educational environment that is hard to succeed in.

3 College Senior

Party Scene: Certain Fraternities have very fun parties! There are usually many parties almost every other weekend.

Campus Food: There is somewhat of a variety on campus which is good. I am so happy they added Chick-Fil-A to campus. That was a very smart decision and one of the best food places we have.

Athletics: I do not attend any sporting events

Off-Campus Housing: Most students who attend YSU do not live on campus, it is mostly a commuting school. The parking is great, there are many parking spots!

Off-Campus Dining: I do not eat off campus

5 College Freshman

Administration: I believe the strictness allows it to be a safe atmosphere for students

Scholarships: The finanial aid office is organized and the workers are very helpful!

Party Scene: I do not attend any parties, nor do i saty on campus on the weekends. I typically try to get in all of my work hours on the weekend.

Campus Food: We have a variety of places to eat, which includes the typical fast food places like Dunkin, Wendys, and Chickfil-a. However there are healthy places to eat on campus like Chop'd and Wrapped and Sol Cafe.

College Freshman

Campus Housing: I do not live on campus, I commute to YSU

College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: It's a little more expensive than dorms, so I don't pick off campus housing. But I hear that you're better off living in the dorms.

College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: I don't pick off campus dining, so my review would not really be helpful. I will say that there's plenty of places to eat, so have fun choosing, but don't eat too much. I crushed the freshman fifteen!

Scholarships: As an incoming freshman, I decided to not ask my cousins who had to deal with it. That was a BAD idea! I was introduced to a whole bunch of terms, made to memorize numbers, and had to do a lot of things that I wasn't taught in High School. Thankfully, YSU has a great financial aid service, and they will walk anyone through. I do advise, if you have an older relative, or friend at YSU (or any college), save the headaches, and ask them!

Party Scene: Unfortunately, I'm not much of a partier. My definition of a party is doing calc homework with my roommate, and 5 other people in the common room of my dorm and getting it all right. From what I hear, the parties here are more peaceful than in other area colleges.

Campus Food: There is no shortage of food at YSU. Actually, any prospective student here might want to limit what they eat. I've gained roughly 25 pounds since being here (and that was in one year). There is no shortage of food here! The KC Food court is really good, granted it closes at 3 P.M. most days, so watch your wristwatch! If you don't eat here, there's Chick-Fil-A, Wendy's, and the local dining hall. The dining hall takes meal swipes. Chick-Fil-A takes both payment methods you learn more about as you complete the housing forms. Wendy's unfortunately only takes one payment method which disappears quite fast there. There is plenty of places to eat on campus. Trust me.

Campus Housing: Living in Lyden House, the building and surrounding area is actually pretty nice. It's starting to show its age, but many buildings on campus are being renovated. The worst quality of Lyden would be the elevator. The house only has one, and it needs replaced, or completely overhauled. The washer-drier room isn't the largest, and is actually cramped, but from what I hear, it's the only house with the same amount of washers and driers. Many have more of one or the other. The building has a nice courtyard and neighbors the Cafaro dorms. Both dorms have a dining hall very close, a 45 second walk away from the farthest door. The food there is decant. The dining hall is a buffet, so take it as it is. Fresh food is obviously better, but the dining hall does what it can. Lyden has nice rooms with the tile floors, so a throw rug is something any student would want to include with his/her packing list. All and all, it's actually not the worst thing to live in a dorm. You have access to many students, and (more than likely) you will have a classmate in the dorm. Living here is not a must, but I highly recommend it!

Off-Campus Housing: There are several off-campus apartment complexes. Many are fairly priced, but I have not looked into these options too much.

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: It is much better to eat off campus than on campus. There's more of a variety, and it's a bit cheaper. However, there are some places that don't accept meal plan funds.

4 College Freshman

Administration: Many of the poilicies are fair, but others are only partially enforced.

4 College Freshman

Scholarships: It took a while to figure out how to get my financial aid, but I ended up with enough to cover everything, including housing.

College Freshman

Party Scene: I'm not really a partying type of person, but I know that there are a lot parties held around campus.

Many local high school students do not bother applying to YSU because they consider it a second-rate college that's too close to home. These students do not know what they are missing! College is only what the student makes of it, and YSU will fully satisfy students who put forth an effort into their college experience. Many current students find themselves pleasantly and unexpectedly surprised that they are actually enjoying their time on campus. As time passes, more and more people are recognizing that YSU is truly a great university.

The campus itself is pristine and gorgeous; the landscaping is well-done, and the architectural structures are being renovated to project a modern, artistic look. Walking to class on a sunny spring morning, students often find themselves stopping in wonder to gaze at the flowers and trees. A lovely atmosphere enhances the students' love for the institution and even the subject matter in classes. An important advantage for YSU's students is the high quality of their instructors and professors. Most of the professors, staff, and assistants are extremely helpful, challenging, and engaging. Some benefits include networking with professionals in various venues, developing competitive skills, and utilizing wonderful hands-on experiences in the field. YSU provides its graduates with running leaps into the future for a price that few other schools can match.
