College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: I have never lived off campus.

Off-Campus Dining: The staff and quality food at grouchos is very nice and also the price of their sandwiches are reasonable however the other food options are only fast food places. The other close option is Ichiro who's prices are outrageous and their student discount is decent but their hours of operation are good. Dragon express can get expensive but some of the food is good.

Administration: The officers are wonderful people that you see on campus and will always put a smile on your face. Certain rules about drinking are too strict considering its the average 'college life'. I find it too strict that if an education major gets one underage drinking ticket their career goal is over, but if any other major does it, it is just a fraction on their record.

Scholarships: There were many opportunities to get help including a questions online conference, that answered any questions dealing with FASFA.

Party Scene: The parties for certain sports and frats are nice but also the option to get a bus to go to clubs in Charlotte and the local bars also have college nights.

Campus Food: Thomson's hours of operation are inconvenient. Many people have late classes and miss the meal plan time while also missing the opportunity to get a meal from Digs because it closes before the class is over. Thomson should be open until 30 minutes after the last class lets out to make sure that every student eats and also has a healthy option for food unlike the food they would eat in their dorm room. If the the dining halls were open longer more people would choose a meal plan that has more meals instead of cafe cash. Also the opportunity to open different meal plans for students instead of just the gold and ultimate because students are wasting their meal swipes when they could benefit using cafe cash.

Campus Housing: The overall interaction with students on my dorm floor is lacking. The floor as a whole isn't a very social and fun place to be because no one knows each other. The best part about the dorms is the programs that they hold. It is very convenient because there is always a nice RA there to help and someone friendly at the desk when you need something.

Athletics: The facilities are great and the team is great and a lot of people attend the events.

Health & Safety: There's a lot of crime reported in the town around campus and there have been some thefts on campus and one student was recently sexually assaulted and there was a failed kidnapping attempt. There are many emergency phones on campus, but I still feel uneasy walking alone on campus at night,

Administration: Depends on how your RA is. Some let you get away with stuff and others are always on your back.

3 College Senior

Scholarships: They do what they need to do, but they treat you like an irresponsible child unless you get a parent to directly interact with them in your place.

Local Area: There's just nothing in walking distance to Winthrop, so you can't really do anything unless you have a car.

Campus Food: Nothing is open past 9pm on weekdays and 7pm on weekends. The food quality is awful, we get stomach aches and stuff a lot just from campus food. It is ridiculously expensive ($8.50 to eat in the cafeteria and around $7-$9 for a meal in the campus center) and not even worth the price. Don't get a meal plan if you are able to buy groceries and make your own food.

Campus Housing: The campus center is open most of the day and it's a great place to hang out with friends. The dorms are okay, but rooming with friends makes them more enjoyable. You just have to get used to having minimal privacy, which kind of sucks. I am glad I live on campus instead of off campus because I get to see my friends a lot more than I would if I lived off campus.

Health & Safety: It is usually quite safe, but crimes still tend to happen late into the night on campus. There are also a lot of bike stealing going on.

3 College Junior

Greek Life: Greek life is about average here on campus.

Overall Experience: My experience was average but nothing over and beyond.

Off-Campus Dining: Off-campus dining can be expensive and they're aren't many healthy choices.

Local Area: In my opinion Rock Hill is eclipsed by its proximity to Charlotte. A lot of fun club activities take place in North Carolina, like going to Whitewater Center or petting zoo. The mall in Rock Hill seemed progressively abandoned over the years and students with cars would prefer to go to shopping malls across the state. For nightlife students can go clubbing in Charlotte on a bus that runs on Thursdays. In comparison a local nightclub called Scandal closed despite its proximity to campus.

Campus Housing: The Wofford, Richardson and Margaret Nance dorms for freshmen are too expensive for the tiny space they provide and having to use community bathrooms. In comparison the dorms for upperclassmen are much more spacious and have one bathroom to each double room. Although the application for dorms are not very strict and you can often find freshmen in the better dorms, the not so good ones are just too expensive for their price. Walk2Campus offer newer apartment housing with single bedrooms and better facilities for around $600 cheaper. The only housing on campus that can compete is Roddey, which is comparatively dirty, but is half priced and more spacious compared to other housing on campus. However, it may usually take a student one to two years to realize better options existed.

Administration: Personally I don't think there is a lot of restriction of social lives. I have seen boyfriends coming into dorms and having sleepovers regularly. It is more up to the roommates to decide the visits they can accept as a whole. Most commuters seem to have trouble with finding parking spaces on campus. Personally I think there should be enough if the students look far enough. The ban on alcohol and drugs is needed in my opinion because I don't like it personally. The residents in the more unruly neighborhoods seem to indulge in it frequently and may have a bad effect on students without those rules.

Majors: Originally I was a biology major at Winthrop. There was no abnormal application process, I had applied using Common Application website. As an international student I had the disadvantage of not being able to attend orientation earlier and getting the classes I need. Dr. Owens, the chemistry chair, was often recruiting students into the chemistry major and I took up dual major for a while. However, scheduling clashes did not make it very easy for dual majoring in science and I had to drop biology.

Off-Campus Dining: Ichiro's is located just across the street from Wofford and Richardson dorms offers Japanese styled food at discounted price for students. Ten minutes walk from Winthrop is Earthfare, an organic food store that also offers organic and exotic food options. Papa Johns is also a popular choice for students and the delivery is usually quite fast. Michael's grille is a nice family styled restaurant but the prices are not very student friendly.
