4 College Freshman

Academics: Academics is the most important thing on campus. The professors care about what they are teaching and who they are teaching. The work load isn't too much, all depending on the professor, but readings are important. Registration for classes is one of the most stressful things but gets easier once you get used to it. Digs provides many areas for studying, and the library also has many options.

Health & Safety: The campus is not the problem but the community around it. With Winthrop being an open campus, many people have access to it, and that's not always a good thing. This year a girl walking by herself to her dorm was robbed at gunpoint. This makes walking back from the library, or even dinner, scary if not in a group. Security to get in dorms is extreme and effective.

Overall Experience: The ratio of students to teachers is excellent. The largest class I had this year was about 30 people and I felt like I was able to learn more. It still felt a little like a high school classroom atmosphere. The professors were all very interested in what they were teaching and able to help each student understand the information anyway they could.

Overall Experience: Again, being a freshman internships or work has not yet been focused on. Each month every student receives an email about opportunities around campus, or the community.

Campus Housing: Only being a freshman I don't have much experience with housing. Applying for housing is stressful due to time slots and everyone trying to choose all at once. Wofford is a typical freshman dorm and if I got the floor I chose I believe I would have liked it a lot more. Room and board is way overpriced, definitely for what we get.

Greek Life: I may be biased due to being a part of Greek Life, but this is my favorite thing about college. Most people don't think they are a person that would join Greek life but at Winthrop there is no such thing. Each sorority and fraternity includes everyone no matter who they are. Their main goal is to help the person choose their home instead of them choosing us. Scholars walk is flooded by tabling, letter shirts, and book bags with buttons. They focus on topics like mental health, breast cancer during October, and collecting bottle tabs. They reach out to non - Greeks and vice versa, it takes a village. Each sorority, and fraternity has a house but is not required to live in unless you are on executive council. or want to.

Athletics: Student turn out for games isn't relatively high because they aren't the most important thing on campus. The fields are also off campus which I believe causes the low turn out.

Overall Experience: Winthrop University is an environment that accepts everyone. Coming in, I was nervous and didn't make many friends due to being scared of getting out there, but this changed once I joined Greek life. My sisters have become life long friends and I am forever grateful for them changing my college experience. Winthrop is not only Greek life and has many different opportunities for every individual. The teachers know me by name, not by number, and do everything to help us succeed in their class. The only con of Winthrop is that the dining hall food isn't the greatest, but this applies for almost every school.

Overall Experience: The variety of courses is great, the classes are typically small and your professor will probably know your name. The professors can be very different grading wise from each other but most are far and want you to succeed.

Overall Experience: The education program here is the best in the state, you can get into an actual classroom your freshman year and get to know the local schools and administrators (possible future boss). Your senior year you are placed in a school and are considered and intern during that time, this works heavily in your favor because when trying to get a job most places see it as a year experience in teaching.

Greek Life: Greek life on campus is different then most other schools with a greek life. The administration does not let them do what they can at other schools such as hosting events, it seems like the greeks have to jump through hoops to get simple events approved. Yes they throw parties and social events but it is nothing compared to larger schools. However I still say Go Greek, it will help you in the long run; you must maintain certain grades, the networking will help post college, and you will always have something to do if ever bored.

Overall Experience: Winthrop makes students take gen. ed. courses that seem pointless at first, but later in my educational career I found the benefit of taking these courses. For the gentlemen... 78% women is not a bad ratio if you're single. The only poor thing to say is that no matter your major it can be difficult to get into classes, because there are typically only a few offered and some only during certain semesters.

Overall Experience: Most student who graduate from here have a job in no time. There are also many opportunities for alumni,

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I would definitely say that the housing price does not match the quality of the space.

4 College Freshman

Greek Life: Greek Life can be a great experience as long as the applicant is joining for the proper reasons.

Overall Experience: I am happy to be at Winthrop because from an early age, I wanted to come to this school. However, the dance program is sort of limited in styles and is not very diverse. There is a wide variety of students here and various club to get involved in. Overall, Winthrop is a great school.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: The school gives a free 3 day self defense class to the females of the campus and there are phones to call the police everywhere on campus. I feel generally safe while on campus.
