2 College Junior

Parking: Parking at Western Kentucky University is atrocious. On-campus lots are at a premium, with spots filled even before the first 8 AM classes begin. Off-campus parking involves parallel parking on busy streets on an incline, and I have had instances where I had to walk 3 blocks to get a parking space.

2 College Junior

Parking: Parking has always been an issue if one is to live on-campus. The campus has expanded and grown greatly in the past decade but the parking has not. The typical cost of an annual permit is $90. The typical parking fine is $25

4 College Junior

Parking: At the local campus, it is free. At the main campus, you must have a permit.

3 College Freshman

Parking: We just need more parking spaces. You really don't need a car on campus because of the buses.

3 College Freshman

Parking: The only complaint I have is they need to make more parking for housing especially close to my dorm because some days it is almost impossible to find a spot

One of the things that Western students complain about most is parking, even though students know that it's not that bad. The $90 permit is much less than other schools, and there are parking lots close to nearly every building. The problem is that students can't always get a parking spot near the building they want.

Western does not limit the amount of parking passes it sells, so there may not be a parking spot for every person. Most of the time there are enough spaces because not everyone is on campus at the same time, but depending on the time of day and how lucky students are, they may or may not find a space in the lot they want. This is especially true for commuter students, who have to deal with it every morning and often complain because they have to arrive on campus much earlier in order to get a spot in the lot they want.

Facts & Statistics

Student Parking Lot?
There are two different types of student passes: commuter and housing. There is a parking garage for each type, as well as different lots scattered around campus. Most of the close parking spots are reserved for housing permits. Commuters have to park in the parking garage, which is in the center of campus, or in lots on the outer edges of campus.
