4 College Freshman

Campus Quality: The campus is truely unique and it is a really cool place to be. You can't explain it unless you've been here.

Campus Quality: Obviously our gyms are some of the best in the nation. Almost every class I believe is a smart classroom. WVU has also done an EXCELLENT job of trying to go green. We are known nationally for that.

Campus Quality: We have a fantastic athletic center with a rock wall, workout machines, and indoor tennis courts. We also have outdoor tennis courts and basketball courts. Students are always encouraged to attend football, basketball, soccer and other sporting events for free. There are 2 libraries to study and do homework. There is a building with 5 different fast food restaurants, and a movie theater and bowling alley. At the beginning of a year there is a free concert.

Campus Quality: There are an endless amount of study spots on campus! Study spots can be found anywhere in both libraries, the rec/athletic center, inside and outside of the MountainLair (student union/center), benches, tables, and the lawn all through out campus, Starbucks, and the multiple study rooms in the dorms and classroom buildings.

Campus Quality: There are many places to sit and study. At my school people usually go to the library or grassy areas in the summer.

The facilities on campus truly are state-of-the-art and play a pivotal role in the lives of the students. The best facilities on campus are the Mountainlair and the Student Rec Center. The Mountainlair is truly the definition of a student union, as it has many facets that bring students together. Inside, students can find a food court, bowling alley, pool hall, video arcade, movie theater, and a radio station. There is also a large study area and a wireless hotspot for students that wish to use the building to study. The Rec Center is only a few years old. It offers three new weight rooms, an exercise machine room, five basketball courts, a volleyball court, a badminton court, racquetball and squash, ping pong, swimming, and a rock-climbing wall. Admittance is paid for with a small student fee, and the Rec Center has become one of the most popular places on campus.

WVU has so many great resources that students don't need to travel more than 10 minutes to find anything they need. There are several small convenience stores around campus that can provide students with things they need spur of the moment. Being that the campus is a huge part of town, there isn't really anything that either the campus or town lacks because they are joined together. There are plenty of things to do such as movie theaters and bowling alleys, and bars, shops, and restaurants all within walking distance of either campus. WVU is truly located in a college town, and students can always find everything they need.

The Gluck Theatre in the Mountainlair
: One of the better traditions involves the WVU mascot, the Mountaineer. It is tradition for him to shoot off his musket during athletic events when a team scores, or to lead the team out onto the field. This is usually the signal for the students to get loud and crazy. Another big tradition is Mountaineer Week. During this week, various activities occur that show what the state of West Virginia is like. There are crafts, folk music players, a beard growing contest, and a contest to see how many students can fit into a PRT car. This usually garners a lot of attention for students, and it's a great time for all
Urban Legends
It is said that in 1902, a bunch of kids led a cow up four flights of stairs in Woodburn Hall as a senior prank. Since cows will go up stairs but are almost never willing to come back down, the cow had to be removed with an "improvised derrick."
Favorite Things To Do
The bars and clubs are where most college kids can be found at night. The Rec Center is also a very popular area for students any time of day. Another favorite student activity is attending all the different athletic events that occur throughout the year. West Virginia’s campus is filled with different things for students to do. One of the most concentrated areas of activity on campus is the Mountainlair. Students can take a break from work by playing pool or bowling. It’s also a great place to grab a cup of coffee or a quick snack. Students can get work done in the study lounge, too.
