Scholarships: Financial aid through WVU has been a breeze. If you ever have any questions the helpful employees in the financial aid office can answer anything and they are always polite. FAFSA is a must and from there on things are easy. Other than deciding to accept or decline loans and grants offered to me, I never have to worry about a thing. Also, because of my GPA and good standing in my college, they contacted me to submit a resume and cover letter to apply for scholarships. I was luckily chosen. I am an in state student which may make things easier but overall I have never had any problems with financial aid or receiving and using the money I need.

Athletics: WVU is full of pride, and especially for our athletes. Game days of all sports are always great days, and tailgating here is like nowhere I have ever been. Our student rec center, or gym, is phenomenal offering anything you can imagine. Along with the sports and the gym our hills keep us in shape!

Health & Safety: I have never felt unsafe on my campus, even at night. Although I carry pepper spray I have never had to use it or even felt threatened enough to think about using it. The campus is always very populated, even on week nights, and it is lit up fairly well. Emergency buttons are located frequently through out campus that will immediately contact the police. I never hear of sexual assault or violence issues on campus, not even rumors, and I have never witnessed or known anybody exposed to these situations.

Off-Campus Dining: The options of off campus dining around WVU are endless. From chain restaurants and fast food places to family owned and organic dining options. The type of quinine around the area is endless as well including Indian, Thai, Chinese, locally grown, family style, bar food and more. Sometimes choosing what type of food you would like is the hardest choice! Also, everywhere delivers. It comes at a small price, but you can get pretty much anything usually until late in the night.

Administration: I do not feel that WVU is very strict at all. They allow students freedom to express and encourage individuality. I do not feel there are any limits on my life or education because of my school. WVU is a positive and free environment.

Scholarships: Scholarships are based on high school academic performance. I received enough scholarships to cover half of my cost of attendance and got loans for the rest.

Administration: West Virginia University offers various majors and they are very flexible. You can find an on campus job if you need one.

Party Scene: There are a lot of house parties downtown. There's always a party on High Street.

Off-Campus Dining: Off-campus dining options include fast foods, such as Chic-fil-A, Burger King, McDonald's, Wendy's, Taco Bell, and Hardee's. Restaurants include Outback Steak House, Long Horn Steak House, IHop, Bob Evans, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Cracker Barrel, Golden Corral, Chili's, Cheddars, and Texas Road House. Many of them offer student discounts.

Athletics: We definitely have the best school spirit. The rec center and our football stadium are the best no question about it.

Greek Life: Frats throw great parties. Everyone hates the sororities though. The girls are kind of stuck up, and they are really strict on them.

Off-Campus Dining: The food is really good, and it's not too expensive. Best places to go are Tailpipes and Jimmy Jons.

3 College Freshman

Administration: We have to check in at the front desk past 9 every night using our student ID's, and we have to check in our guests. Can't check anyone in past midnight.

Campus Housing: It could always be worse. I am currently living in Arnold.. No AC, dorms are small and out dated. Honestly the best things about this place are the elevator and the location. Newer dorms are farther away from downtown, and it sucks having to either rely on the PRT or walking to classes.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I feel very safe on campus, especially during the weekends. Cops are everywhere all weekend long.

4 College Freshman

Scholarships: The scholarships are given to you already based on your GPA in high school, so it's a pretty easy process.

3 College Freshman

Majors: I haven't had an internship but I do plan on having one.

3 College Freshman

Administration: As far as I know the policies act as more like blurred guidelines.

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: The one time I attempted to access the campus security help I was maybe 100 feet off campus and had locked my keys in my car. They refused to help me, but I guess I understand since I was not on campus.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: I rarely eat out to save money, but I hear good things about most close restaurants.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Overall, students have made it pretty clear that they are really enjoying their time at WVU. Looking back through this book, it can be seen that WVU has garnered many high grades for subjects such as social scene, academics, and athletics. It is clear that there are many things the school excels in. The aforementioned are huge parts of campus life at WVU, and the students have said nothing but good things about them. While there were many high grades, there were a few grades that show the University could still improve in certain areas. It is clear that the campus dining services are not doing a great job pleasing the students, nor is the parking situation on campus. Considering these are two pretty important things on a college campus, the University should quickly take the right steps to move those two issues into a positive direction.

The attitude at WVU seems pretty split between academics and social events. While most students attend WVU with the expectation of a great education, there are a select few who come to WVU because of the potential party scene. Either way, WVU offers something for each side. With each incoming class comes the promise to improve upon faults and provide students with the best possible experience and education. The athletics program is on the rise and on the verge of gaining national prominence. The academic programs are showing promise as more WVU graduates are gaining recognition for their accomplishments. WVU is a student-oriented university, and should be considered by incoming freshmen who want to be treated to a great college education and experience.
