Local Area: It's a great art and music scene! If you're looking for a night out, down town is the way to go--especially for the coffee shops!

3 College Sophomore

Local Area: I've lived near here my whole life so I know where people can go to have fun.

3 College Junior

Local Area: There are two malls, one mall is near the school and a movie theater is near the schools. Numerous bars and clubs. Not so safe in certain areas. Cost of living is low.

5 College Freshman

Local Area: The atmosphere here in Georgia at Wesleyan College is very pretty. I love the campus it makes you feel right at home.

4 College Freshman

Local Area: Since we are in Georgia, mostly everyone has southern charm. There are a few different cultural events per year such as the Pan-African festival, Greek festival, Renaissance festival, and the lovely Bragg Jam, which includes a great array of fun mini concerts. There are two shopping malls and a few other places to shop.

Macon's "Friday Fest," a weekly festival full of discounts and concerts, sets a general standard for the city and surrounding community. While the overall size of the city is smaller than Atlanta, it possesses a diverse and historical presence that greets visitors upon entry. Some areas of Macon are less desirable than others, but downtown offers a variety of activity for those willing to find it. Museums, bars, theaters, malls, parks, clubs, coffee shops, and movie theaters are tucked away on streets near and far from the College. Every March, Macon hosts the International Cherry Blossom Festival, which celebrates the incredible, blossoming Yoshino cherry trees that are scattered around Macon. This event is a favorite among Wesleyan students, Maconites, and international visitors. Depending on the events in town and how heavy their coursework is, Wesleyan students tend to spend their free time on campus rather than in outside local areas.

The quality of nearby attractions varies. Museums, theaters, and festivals are always highly satisfactory, as well as events hosted by nearby schools. Mercer University is roughly a 15-minute drive from campus, and Macon State College is a 20- to 25-minute drive with traffic. In regards to safety concerns within the local community, it is unwise for any student to be anywhere alone in downtown Macon at night. Also, if students are at a club, they need to be wary about their drinks and not accept one from strangers. It is very easy for someone to slip a drug into an open bottle/cup when no one is looking.
