Wesleyan College is a dry campus; therefore, possession and/or consumption of an alcoholic substance is not permitted on the premises. Moreover, the school also has a no-tolerance policy against the use and possession of illegal drugs. Due to these regulations, drug and alcohol use is not an apparent part of campus life, preventing any peer pressure to consume them. While there is a handful of upperclassmen that risk concealing alcohol, they control their rate of consumption out of fear of getting caught. Violating either policy is a serious matter, and is handled differently depending on whether the individual is caught with alcohol or drugs. Alcohol violations are handled by honor court on a case-by-case basis. Fines, mandatory community service, and demerits are possible consequences for drinkers. Drugs, just like underage drinking, are a police matter, and consequences result from the state law.
While Wesleyan students respect the honor code, they also know how to let loose off campus. Any intense partying or drinking occurs at local bars or clubs, and a designated driver is always present. The most notorious upperclassmen known for sneaking alcohol on campus are those who occupy the apartment buildings. Also, in regard to drugs, the only one that is rumored to be on campus is marijuana. Occasionally, dorm residents report the smell of it; however, upon any recognition of a scent, it rapidly disappears.
