Health & Safety

Health & Safety: There was 3 sexual assaults reported at Wagner College last year.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Security kind of sucks. They never check IDs in the front of each building because it's not a security guard, it's just a kid doing work study. Middle aged adults walk into the building and harass students, it's ridiculous. Professors don't go into the residence halls, so I don't know why they'd just be ignored. Even if you're not an older adult they need to check IDs more. And there is no perimeter or anything to keep people out of the school, you can easily walk onto campus. It's such a small school, that's the only reason it's safe. Security just rides around on their little golf carts that kill squirrels. But if something were to happen, I would not feel safe on campus.

We have no party scene whatsoever. A lot of people still drink, I know 11 freshman were sent home their first week at Wagner. They tried to teach us alcohol safety, but it was kind of silly.

Apparently sexual assault never happens, but this one kid tried to tell me Wagner just covers it all up and it happens more than they tell us. I'm not sure what the truth is.

Once I was sitting upstairs in our dining hall between classes and suddenly this weird buzzing noise was going off. Literally nobody was moving, not even my upperclassmen friend who I was sitting with. She just shrugged, and a cafeteria worker ran into the room and said if we didn't leave the building immediately we would be kicked out of school. We were all so confused, apparently it was a fire alarm. Nobody knew it was one it was such a strange noise, so nobody moved. Just not the safest thing ever.

Health & Safety: There is security everywhere you go on campus morning, day and night. I feel extremely safe on campus. One morning I had a class in Campus Hall which is the furthest classroom from the parking lot. Campus security was driving around in the golf cart and offered me a ride to the classroom. I really appreciated it because I know that they are doing anything for the students to feel safe.

Health & Safety: Safety isn't bad on campus. Public safety is always helpful when you need them, but don't do much when you don't. They all kind of just walk around campus. We have a good health center who gives great medical advice and help.

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I feel safe on campus and believe it is well monitored. It's a very small campus that is mostly closed off so their are very few people other than students and faculty on campus that would pose a threat to anyone.

Wagner's campus is very safe. The College security staff is very friendly and helpful, especially if someone is injured, and they are extremely vigilant and spots problems right away. There are also emergency call buttons around campus and in the parking lot in case there's an incident. Students say they feel safe walking on campus at night, and the buildings are close enough together that you won't need to walk for long anyway. There are very few incidents on campus, although there have been times when people who shouldn’t have been there have gotten into the dorms; however, Public Safety always acts quickly, and the students aren't in danger.

The Health Services Office is open until 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and until 7 p.m. on Fridays. The nurses are very knowledgeable, and they're very good at making students feel better when they're sick away from home. For a lot of students, this may be the first time they have to take care of themselves when they’re sick, and the nurses will make you feel like you're at home. They'll order any prescriptions you need from the pharmacy and call you once the medicine is delivered. They'll also call you a few days after your visit to make sure that you're feeling better and that everything's okay. There are also psychologists available who provide free counseling for anyone who would like to talk to one.
