3 College Sophomore

Athletics: Lots of options, and the facilities are gorgeous, but not a lot of student support. Everyone tailgates, but few people end up actually going to the games.

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: You'll see a lot of school spirit and decent turnout for our games. There's also tons of club and intramural sports to try and great rec center along with a few other small exercise rooms across campus.

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: Love the athletes. Fan support wavers at time for big football games.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: Athletics are okay - Vandy loves sports but isn't great at them.

2 College Junior

Athletics: Our athletics are laughably bad in some areas, but pretty great in others. Baseball and basketball make it worthwhile but for the most part, our sports are embarrassing and we don't belong in the SEC.

Vanderbilt athletics, at times, seems to be the target of ridicule within the SEC. A lot of this has to do with the size of the student body-even if every single Vanderbilt student and grad student showed up, we couldn't fill our own basketball arena. Compare this to the big state schools of the SEC, which are several times bigger and have tons of alumni within 20 minutes of their school.

There are some of us, however, that take pride in our football team despite its poor showing. Nearly 100 percent of our football players graduated, and none of our programs have ever been on probation. In contrast to some other schools that have scandals and controversial issues, Vanderbilt has steared clear of cheating or other questionable activities. Many students though, would be satisfied having their alma mater remain the loveable and respectable underdog.

Most Overlooked Teams
Baseball, golf, and tennis are all underrated at Vandy. While they don't draw many fans, Vanderbilt consistently excels at the `country club sports.' Both of our tennis and golf teams have placed nationally and consistently rank among the top in the SEC, which is the best and most competitive conference for these sports. The Vanderbilt baseball team has a new stadium and has competed very strongly in SEC play in recent years.
School Spirit
There is a lot of school spirit at Vandy-it's just focused on teams that are winning. So, the teams that succeed tend to draw big crowds, while the teams that lose a lot don't always play in front of a packed house. Students and the Nashville community have a tremendous amount of spirit for teams like the basketball teams, and they will often pack Memorial Gymnasium. For the most part, people on campus are jaded about the football team. While many students attend the games (many dressed up in ties or sundresses), don't expect them to stay very long. In light of the recent successes of the football team, students are becoming more passionate and dedicated about the football team.
Getting Tickets
All games are free for students. Usually, your student ID will get you into any Vanderbilt sporting event for free. For big basketball games, it pays to get there early as the student section will quickly fill up.
Best Place to Take a Walk
Enjoy the indoor or outdoor tracks, stroll around the 330 acres that Vandy's sits on, or simply walk on over to beautiful Centennial Park, just across West End Avenue from main campus.
