Campus Food

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: The dining hall and cafe are both okay. They have little variety from day to day, but if you get made to order options, they are normally pretty good. My freshman year, I ate a lot of made to order pasta, quesadillas and sandwiches. You get a lot of meal plan money your first year and most people have a lot left over. This money does roll over after the fall semester but not onto your sophomore year, so you have to make sure you use it or donate it. I would highly recommend getting the smallest meal plan possible and using Crusader Cash past that.

Campus Food: The food is pretty good, but I have to turn a blind eye to how it is raised. I wish that they would use more fair-trade, locally sourced, and organic products. The hours are good, as the main cafeteria opens at 7 and closes at 7 on weekdays, and then the café is open. I like the deli/ coffee shop in the library.

Campus Food: The food on campus is great the first year, but you get sick of it pretty quickly. You also have to buy a meal plan your first 3 years, unless you have an exemption. But it's easy to get food off campus, and you can always do sandwiches.

Campus Food: Breakfast is amazing! The Founders Table does a great job making "home made" food and not over-distributed bland filling carb meals. A-la-carte can get expensive for guys, otherwise you shouldn't have any issue. Favorite part is the Starbucks at the cafe and grinders.

Campus Food: For the most part our food is prepared hot and ready, but they tend to leave the food out all day. So it ends up not being too good. They are also very repetitive on their weekly menus.

Campus food is better than most high school cafeteria food. The meal card is like a debit card system because you pay for what you buy. There is no "pay for two meals a day" option. This way students can come in any time of the day and grab whatever they need. For food, the new Harre Union offers more choices with a café-style facility at one end and a sit-down meal area at the other. The latter (Founder's Table) has an executive chef and three other main menu options. There is always a vegetarian option, and the food is made in front of you most of the time. Salad, sandwich, and soup bars are always popular, but there is also typical college food like hamburgers, grilled cheese, etc., along with brick oven pizza, paninis, pasta, and the chef's creation.

Dining Services manages to do a pretty good job feeding the entire campus some decent food. Setting up a menu to feed 2,000 students that includes variety and choices, yet tries to maintain a certain nutritional standard, can’t be easy.

Theme nights are favorite occasions for many students. Different foods will be featured at different times of year in almost every dish. There was corn night, apple night, and duck night, to name a few. The space is decorated to fit the theme, and even the cafeteria ladies dress up in Afro-wigs or sombreros, depending on the event. A lot of students even get to know some of the cafeteria ladies. They smile and greet you whether you are sleepily stopping by for a doughnut and juice before trudging to class or sitting down with a group of friends for dinner.
