Overall Experience: Best thing about school is meeting new people and experiencing a complete different atmosphere from high school.

Off-Campus Dining: It is better than the cafe.

Administration: There isn't much that goes on.

Scholarships: It took forever to get help from somone.

2 College Student

Campus Food: There is the same thing almost everyday. The main needs to be better.

3 College Student

Campus Housing: It is boring. There is nothing to do for the students over the weekend. There should be more involvement from a club to put together activities.

3 College Sophomore

Party Scene: There is not many big parties. There are mainly multiple small parties that take place after a football game.

Athletics: The football team is the primary reason the university is still running. They have pushed for years to get new athletes to come play for them and they football team has to deal with sub par athletic facilities.

Health & Safety: Student health and safety is taken very lightly at the university and is often seen as a joke amongst students.

Greek Life: There is not a Greek life at Urbana University....

Diversity: The school has international students every year, especially from China. It is great having the diversity of other ethnic groups represented, but it is still difficult to have much intermingling between them and Americans. As an older, off-campus student I do not know of the students political beliefs or religion. I do know there are a few homosexual couples on campus.

Majors: The work load for accounting and business is heavy at times and at others it does not seem to cover enough. There is encouragement for internships and the career center adviser is a great help. Most of the professors care about if you are understanding the material more than getting a good grade. The facility and staff in the Business College are friendly and helpful outside the classroom also.

Local Area: It is a small town atmosphere and most people are friendly and helpful. The city puts on annual affairs around holidays during the year. There are historic buildings that are being worked on to save. There is the county fairgrounds at the edge of town and community involvement is big. Shopping is limited, but downtown has a lot of locally owned businesses.

Health & Safety: I do not live on campus and therefore do not have an adequate view on the security. When I am there I do see the supervisor in different locations at different times. There is a 24-hr phone number that can be called.

Students Often Come From

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

Most students have a great time at Urbana University and consider the people and professors here a part of their extended families. You might hear some people say "This place sucks!" every day, but they probably only feel that way because they're not active in anything. If you get involved in clubs and other organizations on campus, you'll never be bored. You get out of it what you put into it, and that's true anywhere. Whine all you want about how there's nothing to do, but until you get out of your room or your select clique of friends and make an effort, you won't be having any fun.

At larger state schools, you could find yourself feeling like more of a number instead of a person as you sit in giant lectures, whereas at UU, your largest class will probably have about 25 people. You might even end up in a class with fewer than 10 students! The people and the professors really want you to succeed, and they care about you, and that's what helps to set Urbana apart from a lot of other universities and makes it a great choice.
