Academics: They say students at the UW work hard and play hard. Be prepared to study A LOT when you go to Madison. There are tons of resources to take advantage of at the UW, so be sure to reach out to as many people as you can. Go to office hours as professors are very willing to help out and most TA's are very helpful.

Diversity: UW-Madison's a very diverse campus, and it's easy to meet others with different backgrounds.

Drug Safety: Madison's known as a party school, and there's usually alcohol everywhere that you go. A lot of people smoke marijuana, but there is very little beyond that.

Drug Safety: Lots of drinking but lots of people dont drink. One can find his or her own nich

Administration: They are pretty strict when it comes to parking, especially on game days.

Campus Quality: The terrace at memorial union is an awesome place to hangout when it's warm outside! Definitely great to have a lake right next to the campus. Great for walks, runs, and biking.

Campus Housing: If you like to party and you're very extroverted, live in the Southeast dorms. If you like to party or you don't, but you like your quiet time live in the lakeshore dorms. If people want to party, they leave lakeshore and go to southeast. Lakeshore stays relatively quiet and Southeast stays relatively loud. It depends on what you prefer. I lived in lakeshore and it was pretty far from the rest of campus, but I really appreciated the quiet, especially when I had studying to get done!

Administration: I don't think UW-madison to be a "strict" school if you're a moron and you dont play within the boundaries that you are given then you will get in trouble for something and this is in regards to social aspects. In regards to academics UW is extremely strict on integrity and honesty which I am proud of.

Diversity: I think diversity is widespread and high. You are not lookinat classrooms similiar to the homogoneous ones you experienced in high school. Before class starts it is normal to hear multiple languages as well as diverse and different questions and opinions discussed during lectures. Sexual orientationand political beliefs are varied and accepted throughout campus - it's very to common to see and discuss this topics.

Campus Quality: I think UW-Madison is extremely unique, between our several unions, extra curricular choices and my fellow peers we stand out. There is always something to do and people are always looking for more friends or people to join their club or cause. It is a positive, up-beat campus life!

Local Area: There is so so so much to do! From football games in the fall, to State street shopping and dining, to the Farmer's Market, and the Capitol there is something for everyone. You really are in the center of all the action.

Health & Safety: Emails have been sent out about weird people coming into the dorms. I would never leave my door unlocked if I left the floor for more than 10 min. But even then, you shouldn't feel safe.

Party Scene: A fraternity is almost always bound to have a party/pre-bar/Abar/some sort of fun festivity. House parties are hard to come by if you don't have friends in apartments, but they usually have kegs and only a $5 cover (usually less/free for girls). Bars are all 21 plus, but fakes are used easily.

3 College Sophomore

Weather: Winters are brutal, class is never cancelled, even if it's blizzarding. I had HORRIBLE allergies because there is a certain type of pollen in Madison that I did not grow up around. Summers, spring and fall however are wonderful.

3 College Junior

Majors: I am very happy being in both Health care Admintrationa and nursing and i would so it again becuase i love working in the Health Care field My career goals are to obtain my Bachelors degree and become an Adminstartive program manage.. ihave no concerns about finding a job the Health care field is a growing field.

3 College Junior

Majors: The program i am in is Health care Adminsitration and Nursing the program is detail to teach me how to operate and ensure the department is being ran effectively the owrk load it basically 2 or 3 classes which may consit of typing paper. The job oppotunities for this program would be hospital adminstartor if pursue a bachelor or masters or a program manager and for Nursing to be able to teach.

Transportation: Public transportation around Madison is amazing. Every student receives a free bus pass and any route 80 or above is also free. The only problem with the transportation is that on rainy days, it fills up extremely fast. If you need to make it somewhere on time, make sure to leave early for the bus by at least 5 to 10 minutes.

Campus Food: The campus dining areas are pretty good. The dining facilities were recently revamped giving the students more options. State Street offers great options of food for students sick of the dining hall which will happen. Also, Madison Fresh Market and Trader Joe's offer options to students wishing to cook their own meals.

Academics: I've absolutely loved my professors at UW-Madison. They tend to cater to students with as many office hours as possible and are extremely flexible with scheduling private office hours. While the work load for some classes is heavier- four to six hours of reading a night for one class- the professors make a point of listening to the students and accommodating for essays and tests.

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: A very large variety of off campus dining options. Students living on campus always have state street to go to as well.

4 College Freshman

Administration: The campus is lenient for the most part from my experience, but I have heard horror stories of mean RAs that are too strict. But at the end of the day, the campus wants to merely protect its students and the students are able to have fun nonetheless.

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: A lot of options when it comes to off-campus housing and most students will opt for these options either after freshman or sophomore year. It is very possible to find a place with a great location and a great price as I have had a lot of UW friends get apartments with much success.

5 College Freshman

Technology: A lot of computer labs on campus, but since everyone going to college usually has a laptop anyway one is not forced to use the labs. The wireless network is fast and accessible everywhere (in my experience) on campus.

5 College Freshman

Local Area: Madison is an awesome college town that is very proud of its UW students. The surrounding areas really cater to all the needs a UW student could have. Plus Midwesterners, especially Wisconsinites are among the nicest people in the US.

Students put a lot of time and energy into their undergraduate education. Luckily for those at UW, many feel it has been a positive experience. The college atmosphere, expansive campus, and intense academics are only some of the reasons students enjoy UW so much. Students feel they are able to form relationships with other students, as well as their professors. Furthermore, UW leaves them prepared for their future.

An individual’s undergraduate experience is one of the most exciting times in their lives. It is often the first time they are away from parents and making serious decisions about their future. Therefore, it is essential to pick the best university to spend these busy years at. UW offers amazing academics, an inviting atmosphere, and energetic student body. Its location geographically makes it comfortable as well as gorgeous. The facilities are very accommodating, as is the transportation system. Though like any school, there are things that can be improved upon or changed. Parking remains a prevalent issue, for instance. Fortunately, though, issues such as diversity and improvements to the quality of the dorm food are being addressed. Students generally leave the school feeling satisfied and prepared for what’s to come. Wherever you decide to spend your undergraduate years, definitely consider the University of Wisconsin as a practical, exciting, and fulfilling option.
