Campus Housing: I live in Chadbourne Residential Hall, and although the rooms are really small, everything is very clean and new and there are plenty of opportunities to do fun activities.

Greek Life: Greek life makes the social atmosphere of campus very clique-y and are viewed somewhat negatively by non-Greeks.

Off-Campus Housing: Off-campus housing really depends on the neighborhood. Madison has either really nice, expensive housing or low-quality, cheap housing. There isn't much of a middle-ground.

Off-Campus Dining: Madison has so many diverse and good-quality restaurant options. It's only a matter of getting there when you live on campus.

Administration: I think people get away with a lot on campus. In my experience, I haven't heard of people getting in trouble for drinking, noise, drugs, etc. The campus police are very good about keeping us informed about crime and sexual assaults.

Party Scene: I never go out to parties because I am focusing on my studies.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: I had a hard time applying for financial aid because my tax agent made a few errors, but I received the aid I needed for this year. Scholarships from the UW seem pretty limited unless you're in a specific school.

Campus Food: Gordon Commons has a pretty good variety of food options, but the food is bland and gets old fairly quickly. I like that prices are discounted with a student ID, but the eating area is pretty dirty and they always put too much tomato on my tacos.

Campus Housing: The only two things I like about living in the dorms are that I live close to classes and I don't have to clean the bathrooms. Otherwise, I dislike having to share a bathroom with my floor, showering with flip flops on, and having to pay $1,000 a month to split a room in half. There isn't much of a social atmosphere; everyone seems to keep to themselves. I'm looking forward to getting an apartment next year.

Athletics: UW Madison has great athletic teams and world-class facilities.

Off-Campus Housing: I personally found an apartment for next semester with which I am very happy. In the searching process, I saw quite a few very run-down and poor locations. However, pretty much anything is better than the rates for dorms.

Off-Campus Dining: Madison is great for restaurants. We have a ton of different, good, and reasonable restaurants within walking distance of campus.

4 College Freshman

Administration: I like that the administration requires sexual assault and alcohol programs for students. We all hated doing them, but I like that those issues are made salient in the minds of the student body.

Party Scene: I don't go to parties. I know people who do go and the parties don't appeal to me.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: The university is good about distributing aid from the FAFSA. However, finding scholarships outside of that is difficult in such a large student body.

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: The dining halls offer a pretty good variety of food. It does get old after a while though.

Campus Housing: My dorm is very nice, but they charge far too much. I wish I had known more about living opportunities outside of the dorms for my first year.

Off-Campus Housing: The closer you get to State Street, the more expensive. It is outrageous compared to other universities, but it is possible to find fair priced places in the location you are looking.

Off-Campus Dining: So many great places. I suggest checking out Hilldale to change it up!

Administration: I love my professors. They are all extremely helpful and approachable. They are so full of knowledge too-- I know I am receiving an incredible education.

Party Scene: You never feel pressure to go out! But if you do, you're sure to have a good time. And it feels relatively safe because there are police officers everywhere-- they never give out underages, they just want to make sure everyone is safe.

3 College Junior

Scholarships: I received the FAFSA, but because of my father's income I was unable to receive any scholarships. I found this frustrating since I am the one paying for school.

5 College Junior

Campus Food: There are so many places to choose from! If nothing sound good on state, there are three malls within a 45 minute bus ride surrounding campus.

Campus Housing: I loved living in Ogg my freshman year, but many people got stuck in one of the older dorms (like Sellery). I could never live in a space that small, but I know many people who loved living there. I also loved being able to choose between the two neighborhoods-- southeast and lakeshore.

Party Scene: I don't party but I've heard it's great.

Students put a lot of time and energy into their undergraduate education. Luckily for those at UW, many feel it has been a positive experience. The college atmosphere, expansive campus, and intense academics are only some of the reasons students enjoy UW so much. Students feel they are able to form relationships with other students, as well as their professors. Furthermore, UW leaves them prepared for their future.

An individual’s undergraduate experience is one of the most exciting times in their lives. It is often the first time they are away from parents and making serious decisions about their future. Therefore, it is essential to pick the best university to spend these busy years at. UW offers amazing academics, an inviting atmosphere, and energetic student body. Its location geographically makes it comfortable as well as gorgeous. The facilities are very accommodating, as is the transportation system. Though like any school, there are things that can be improved upon or changed. Parking remains a prevalent issue, for instance. Fortunately, though, issues such as diversity and improvements to the quality of the dorm food are being addressed. Students generally leave the school feeling satisfied and prepared for what’s to come. Wherever you decide to spend your undergraduate years, definitely consider the University of Wisconsin as a practical, exciting, and fulfilling option.
