5 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Growing up in Wisconsin, it's always been a dream to be a badger. The University of Wisconsin allows me to go to my dream school and has an awesome atmosphere regarding college sports and fun, working hard to succeed in school, and being successful after school.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Sure, no one likes to be jam packed on one floor with 59 other bodies, but for some reason that was one of my favorite parts of being in Chadbourne this year. I should clarify quickly that the answers that I gave above in the survey section are related simply to Chadbourne Residence Hall. Chadbourne was the reason that my first year went as smoothly as it did. My roommate was fantastic, the bathrooms, bedrooms and amenities were perfect and the lounge and den areas where everyone could hang out and talk about their day made us all so much closer than most college students become when in dorms. I could not have asked for a better setup this year than what I was given, and I would not take back any of the memories that I made there. I grew as a person in the dorms, because I was forced to step out of my comfort zone and greet 59 new people within the first two weeks. Throughout the nine months that I was in Chadbourne, I made friendships that I will keep forever. Chadbourne was also very central to all of my classes, allowing for easy walks back and forth. In addition to the convenient location, Rheta's dining hall and the Flamingo Run store on the first floor were extremely nice to have, especially when it got colder and no one wanted to walk to Gordon's. I would and have recommended Chadbourne to any incoming student at Madison, and I hope to go back sometime this next year to remind myself of where I started my time as a Badger.

Athletics: If you have ever been to a Badger football game, then you know just how important sports are at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. My first Badger game was an event I'll never forget and something I never want to forget. I was surrounded by a sea of red-and-white-clothed fans, cheering and jumping up and down for three hours straight. There is not sitting in the student section, only boisterous yelling and support for the athletes that are working their hardest to keep Madison's reputation for being one of the best college sports teams of all time. And though we may have lost a time or two, you could still see the proud smiles of everyone in the crowd, because everyone knew that we had tried our best and we were already looking forward to the next game. I am extremely excited to take part in these unifying sports events again this upcoming year, and I promise that I will be the one jumping the highest when Jump Around blasts through the speakers before fourth quarter.

Overall Experience: I remember the first day I walked onto campus. The cars and people continuously buzzed around me as furniture was brought into Chadbourne and family members hugged and kissed their loved ones goodbye. I was emotional, lost, unsure of what the future had to hold... in short I was terrified. However, as the months passed and new friends were made, I realized just how amazing college can be. I bonded with my floor mates through intense Badger football games, beautiful shows at the Overture and late night stops at Short Stack. Though the large work load was something I had to adjust to, I was finally beginning to understand what I wanted in life. I found myself discovering new traits about myself that I never knew I possessed. College has been such an eye-opening experience so far, and I am excited to see what I stumble upon next. I find myself reliving memories that I made within those nine months over and over again in my head and I smile, because I remember how many laughs were shared and hugs given. I cannot wait to start my Sophomore year at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. If this upcoming year is anything like the last one, it is going to be unforgettable.

Party Scene: Great parties, usually cheap or free to get in. I spent $5 to get a cup once and that was it.

5 College Sophomore

Party Scene: There's a reason it's been named the top party school in the country.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: There are easy classes to be found, but generally you will be challenged.

3 College Sophomore

Diversity: I don't think it's as diverse as most people think it is.

5 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: You can do almost as much partying as you want, but no one will judge you if you don't.

3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: It's a mixed bag of good and bad professors. Can really vary from class to class and semester to semester.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: There are a lot of career centers and people to help you if you're willing to ask.

Health & Safety: Though it's a small city, Madison is a city nonetheless and there is crime. Try not to walk alone at night because the environment, especially on weekends where lots of visitors/ non-students are around, can feel unsafe at times. Be smart, be safe.

Campus Housing: Live on campus freshmen year if possible! It's such a great way to meet people and make lots of great friends due to sheer proximity to each other. If you're not an introvert or completely comfortable spending lots of time alone, Witte and Sellery are your greatest dorm options (Chadbourne's ok too). Lakeshore may be pretty, but will isolate you from much of the social life and tends to attract a quieter crowd. Dorm life isn't perfect but it's 100% what you make it so embrace your freshmen year shoebox!

Greek Life: While there is definitely a divide between Greeks and non-Greeks on campus, at the end of the day your affiliation or lack thereof doesn't matter. Going Greek has played a large, positive role in my college experience and that is coming from someone who was very hesitant going into recruitment. The sense of community is very strong and, as cliche as it sounds, makes the large school feel a lot smaller through the close connections you make with so many people. However, it is not for some and you can undoubtedly have a fantastic college experience even if you don't join a fraternity or sorority.

Athletics: Sports are huge and school spirit is unbelievable. Win or lose, students come together as a big community on game days, which go beyond just football and basketball. If you're not content simply being a fan in the stands, there are plenty of competitive club and a plethora of IM league sports you can participate in!

Overall Experience: There is just something about UW-Madison that can't be put into words. The sense of community, even given the size, is unreal. It has given me some of the best memories of my life so far. Becoming a Badger was the best decision I've ever made and I wouldn't change it for a second!

Campus Housing: Some buildings are better than others. Some are older, but they are still clean and have a great social atmosphere. Some have great locations but others are far from classes.

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: I don't know much about it besides the parties they throw are pretty good.

Athletics: There's tons of school spirit and team support.

Overall Experience: I would choose UW Madison again in a heartbeat!

3 College Junior

Overall Experience: Some teachers are hard to understand, making it up to you to learn the material. However, most teachers are awesome, enthusiastic, and take their classes seriously. The workload can be hard to juggle at times, but managing my time has been a big part for me in maturing and I'm glad I am experiencing this.

5 College Junior

Overall Experience: Tons of employers come to campus often, we have two big career fairs, and big companies from the Twin Cities and Chicago love to come in. We have dozens of alumni networks, and the career services we have here blew away any expectations I may have had.

5 College Junior

Health & Safety: We are constantly holding meetings to address any and all issues that may arise, and are also constantly informed of dangerous situations and ways to stay safe.

3 College Junior

Campus Housing: I hated living in the dorms, but, in retrospect, it was a worthwhile experience. Living in an apartment is the best though, because it is easy to find one central to class, Greek life, State Street and the rec center.

5 College Junior

Greek Life: It's kind of cliquey, but that is to be expected. However, I have had so much fun, and met so many people I otherwise wouldn't have.

Students put a lot of time and energy into their undergraduate education. Luckily for those at UW, many feel it has been a positive experience. The college atmosphere, expansive campus, and intense academics are only some of the reasons students enjoy UW so much. Students feel they are able to form relationships with other students, as well as their professors. Furthermore, UW leaves them prepared for their future.

An individual’s undergraduate experience is one of the most exciting times in their lives. It is often the first time they are away from parents and making serious decisions about their future. Therefore, it is essential to pick the best university to spend these busy years at. UW offers amazing academics, an inviting atmosphere, and energetic student body. Its location geographically makes it comfortable as well as gorgeous. The facilities are very accommodating, as is the transportation system. Though like any school, there are things that can be improved upon or changed. Parking remains a prevalent issue, for instance. Fortunately, though, issues such as diversity and improvements to the quality of the dorm food are being addressed. Students generally leave the school feeling satisfied and prepared for what’s to come. Wherever you decide to spend your undergraduate years, definitely consider the University of Wisconsin as a practical, exciting, and fulfilling option.
