2 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I don't have many friends, and since it's a large school, it's hard to bond with classmates. The major I want to get into is too competitive, and for how much it costs, I don't think education from this school is worth it. I wish I had taken another offer to a cheaper university where I would have been admitted into my major as a freshman.

Overall Experience: So far school is a lot of fun, but it is also a lot of work. I have to stay on top of my schedule a lot more and am solely responsible for managing time. However, the social aspect is amazing, and there's always something to do.

Overall Experience: The UW is an amazing school, and I'm so proud to be a Husky. With its many diverse classes, I can narrow down what fits best for me, and the online classes make it so much easier to fit in my schedule. Although the financial aid can be tricky, I don't know what I would do without having a higher education at this school.

Overall Experience: I have had an amazing experience in college so far. I am really happy with my choice and I have been able to get involved in so many different things around campus and within our community. I am in the University of Washington's Marching Band and have been to every home game as well as an away trip to Canada! Its been so amazing meeting people and getting to study what I want to study, not just what I am told I have to study.

Overall Experience: What makes my school so unique is its diversity that is represented within the community. I've experienced already an abundant amount of different insights, organizations and paths. As I have been working towards my academic life, i am still able to balance out my social activity by joining clubs, networking with professional organizations and undergraduate pipelines. My freshman year has been a blast and looking forward to my second year at The University of Washington.

Overall Experience: The UW experience is unique. Before the school started, we have half a month participating in all kinds of events hosted by students or official school programs, which is great to adjust to a new environment. The faculty is excellent, the students work pretty hard, including me. There are so many fun things you can do in the University of Washington!

Overall Experience: I actually began at a two year college in New York and got my associate's degree in social sciences. Then when I was looking for schools, the University of Washington stood out because of it's incredible location (by the mountains and the sea), and the fact it had really stellar programs. I come from a family of nine children, and they all still live on the east coast so it was a big move, physically and emotionally. It's hard to be so far away from them, but the school makes it all worth it. My professors are so vivacious and devoted to what they are teaching. A lot of them are pursuing their own research in the field they're studying, so they really know what they are talking about. And at the events, everyone goes all out. They're constantly giving away free merchandise and blasting music and having club fairs with free food vendors. Starbucks gave away free frappuccinos at the last event! I love being a part of a huge diverse community, and I would definitely choose this school again if I had to start over.

Overall Experience: The class is a mixed group of young, straight out of their undergrad kids and a few of us that are making a career change. This makes for a challenging social dynamic.

Overall Experience: One of my favorite things about UW is walking to the home football games with a huge group of people who are all decked out in purple and gold, shouting "go dawgs" and riling each other up. A huge athletics community and school spirit is so much fun. The off-campus living is beautiful, and I am an hour from mountains and amazing hikes, five minutes from Lake Washington, and twenty minutes from the Puget Sound and fifteen minutes away from the big city of Seattle. As a student you are in no way "stuck" in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do. There are always things going on to attend, and it almost never matters what you wear because Seattle's dress code is extremely relaxed.

Overall Experience: Everything about this school is perfect; the beauty of the campus, the helpful professors and TAs, the diversity of the people, the resources, etc. I would never go anywhere else.

Overall Experience: UW is a huge STEM research school. If you're a humanities student, like I am, it's easy to feel alienated. Also, UW itself is a huge school. In high school I didn't really consider size, and if I could go back and do it over I would only apply to small liberal arts colleges and universities considerably smaller sized than UW.

Overall Experience: UW is a uniquely beautiful place. There's no place in the world where I'd rather be. It's the perfect harmony of urban and nature. My school offers rigorous academics, the bustling hub of Seattle, the stunning Cascades, and Lakes Union and Washington. The school is so large that there is something for everyone. You can't make a small school big, but you can make a big school small

Overall Experience: UW iSchool is #3 in the country and the opportunities to gain experience outside of the traditional classroom are amazing. I never felt like I was part of a community in undergrad, but during the two years at the iSchool I felt like I was a major contributor to the community and culture of the program. I have nothing bad to say about the program except that I wish it was not as pricey!

Similar to the academic experience at the UW, the University is so huge that it's virtually impossible to predict what a student will think of the school. As the quotations attest, some people fall in love from day one and have to tear themselves away on graduation day, while others drag themselves through school as a chore and can't wait to get out into the post-college world, but it seems, like most things at this school, that it truly is what you make of it. Perhaps for a less socially-motivated person, UW isn't the ideal school. In a bigger environment, maybe it helps to be a little more outgoing-introduce yourself to people in class, meet some people at parties; you sort of have to put yourself out there in order to get anything back.

In all, if a student is determined to make his or her time at UW a positive social experience, it's definitely within the realm of possibilities to do so. There are so many groups to join, parties to go to, and people to meet that there's basically an endless list of social opportunities. There are always more people to meet, so if you don't want to get pigeonholed in a certain crowd, you can move on to a new one. At the same time, however, the size of the school can be daunting for more socially-intimidated students. Just as easy as it is to get out there and meet people, it's not too difficult to get holed up in a dorm room and end up being fairly antisocial. Overall, the key to having a good experience at UW is getting involved and experiencing as many things as possible. After it all adds up, you can allow UW to be a negative experience or you can craft it into your personal haven.
