3 College Senior

Athletics: The athletics here do take a lot of priority on campus. Recently there has been and increase of fan support and school spirit because the athletic teams are doing better than previous years. Team performance is slowly improving and recently three of our football team members have been signed by major NFL teams. The campus is currently very proud.

3 College Freshman

Athletics: I am involved in the athletics at UIW and the students and teacher tend not to care about the sports.

3 Recent Alumnus

Athletics: Athletics add to the typical college experience.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: This University is not known for it's athletic department, it is mostly known for it's academics. Saying that this university does try very hard to incorporate sports into campus life.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: The athletics at UIW are great. Non athletes are completely welcome to use the athletic facilities all the time. The athletes have outstanding team performance and a huge fan support. The football and basketball teams have the full support of the band, who attend all home games and play music in the stands for everyone to enjoy. The band also cheers on the teams and supports them, and in return a lot of the athletes support the band by attending their concerts.

Football is almost like religion in Texas, but that is not the case at UIW, even though it is one of the most popular sports on campus. However, adding a football team to UIW did increase the interest in sports and attendance at games. Most students will arrive early to a game for the tailgating parties, at which alcohol is sold, but only to those who are 21 or older. Still, students have a good time at these parties.

There are quite a few sports that are overlooked. Golf, tennis, and synchronized swimming, to name a few, hardly ever even make it into the school newspaper. Even though these sports are overlooked, the athletes on these teams still love what they do and do a good job of representing the school.

Intramurals are also available for those students who would like to play a sport but not at the varsity level. Participating in an intramural is a great way to stay in shape, get rid of stress, and even earn extra credit for your Dimensions of Wellness class. Many students who join intramurals were students who used to play on a team during high school and would like to get back into that sport.
