5 College Freshman

Scholarships: The financial aid they offer when you get accepted into the school is a great help and is one of the only reasons why I decided to come here. Since I got good grades and SAT scores, I got awarded 14,000 a year, which helps immensely since they know they're an expensive school. They also have a scholarship program where you just have to keep up your GPA and you get the money yearly. All you have to do is look around for maybe some other scholarships or pull out loans and you should be fully covered.

Off-Campus Housing: For those that have regular jobs, it's very easy to get a friend and live in an apartment together nearby, but both of you have to have credit experience and jobs if you want to keep up a decent apartment. As a first-time freshman, it's basically impossible to live off-campus and not at home. Otherwise, once you get older, get a job, and build your credit, you could probably move out comfortably junior or senior year. There are great places nearby, but there's also some bad places nearby, you just need to know where to go and what to avoid.

Local Area: I've lived in San Antonio all my life, downtown is pretty and walking around is nice, the NcNay and Witte are in fairly good walking distance from the school.

Off-Campus Dining: I haven't really eaten out much except for the few times I go to the riverwalk and it's bland.

3 College Sophomore

Local Area: I feel like there isn't a whole lot to do in San Antonio, but if you look hard you can find something.

Athletics: The university tries to make athletics a big deal when no one even cares.

College Junior

Athletics: Not really into athletics, but I generally enjoy viewing sporting events.

Party Scene: I don't usually party. Most of advertised parties are off-campus via word of mouth.

3 College Junior

Administration: Pretty average for the most part. Stay on their good side and befriend the cops.

5 College Junior

Local Area: Definitely worth checking out! Although there are usually a lot of events happening on campus, it is always worthwhile to venture off campus to see what's going on within the city.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

The University of the Incarnate Word has so much to offer. From the academics and excellent professors to the life-long friendships, you will not look back and regret coming to UIW. Most of the students really enjoy their experience at UIW. The friendships formed here usually last through college and beyond. There are also more genuine friendships since UIW is a small school, and keeping in contact with fellow classmates is very easy because you see the same people almost daily. UIW is a very diverse school, so it is like a "small world." The memories formed at UIW are endless.

The education is top-of-the-line, as it thoroughly prepares each student to excel in his or her desired field of study. The smaller atmosphere allows for more personal attention for each student. The relationships between students and teachers is very strong, and professors know students by their names because of the low student-to-teacher ratio. Sure, you will hear complaints here and there, whether it be about residence life or the cafeteria food, but keep in mind that everyone has different tastes, and nothing is perfect. Overall, students are very satisfied with their education at UIW and all that it brings them not only while they are in school but after they graduate as well. Professors and advisers make sure that their students are more than prepared for their careers and for whatever life may bring in the future.
