Greek Life: There are no fraternity or sorority houses but I think that that it is no matter once you get around with the group you are in in their events.

Majors: There are many choices and I feel that it would be pretty easy to change majors.

Athletics: I hear that participating in sports is a great way to socialize around campus and to have a role in campus life.

Majors: The classes are small, relatively the size of a high school class. The connections with professors are great. Some professors, however, cannot teach!

Party Scene: I'm not one to really "party". It's a waste or my time and brain cells to be honest. I know most of the party scene is for the athletes and freshmen who are typical freshmen and that's what they do till they get tired of it. The campus does have a lot of positive impact on the student experience, they do have a lot of laid back events that accompany every type of student if you're not really into being loud and drunk.

Scholarships: The people in financial aid definitely do work with you. I just lost my mom when I transfer here and it was such a struggle. I wish that I would be able to use my dad's VA benefits, but since it's a private school hazel wood is not excepted. You need to do everything early for financial aid, listen to the sources that they give you. Stay on top of scholarships, it seems like you never get anything but you actually do if you're consistent.

Overall Experience: I absolutely love the UIW faculty and all that they do for the students. I spent a semester at UTSA the main campus in ROTC and didn't like the student to teacher ratio, I was just a number. Here at Incarnate Word you're not a number, you have a name first and last. They understand what it's like, they really do because many have graduated from here that now teach here. It's a family, they ask and speak highly of all the students. The quality here is one of the best that I've see locally in San Antonio.

Administration: I think the campus is strict of course in areas that are going to effect the entire campus population, which they should be. Overall they do a good job, our voices don't go unheard, and SGA does a great job representing the student body, as well as faculty.

Greek Life: I don't know much about greek life. I have several classmates who have joined a sorority or fraternity. They are very involved, not much different from any other student who is heavily involved in their organization.

Health & Safety: There are hardly ever any reports of safety measures not being taken care of or a lack of them. The biggest issue is the night classes, wanting more police and well lite areas around campus for those who are at school past 5 or 6 p.m.

Guys & Girls: Just as diverse as the culture here on campus is, so is the dress. We have girls who rock things that I can't, or wouldn't want too.. but it's them. Most people don't look at you weird hardly ever. The typical student's look for girls is jeans, pretty shirts or graphic tees and tennis. At UIW it's very laid back, we're here for school not to impress anyone. But you'll meet people on all sides of the spectrum and many inbetween.

Athletics: The student involvement makes up much of the athletic world. UIW has school spirit that is not like any other. Our football team took a blow this past year in losing some of our best players, but I have classmates who are athletes and they are very humble, love support and strive just as hard as the non- athletes to do well in all their studies.

Local Area: San Antonio is a great city, it is a diverse place with a heavy influence of Hispanic culture but other cultures are not left out. The scenery in the city is beautiful, there are natural caverns, shops beyond shops, and most important to me is the culture. There are always events happening within the city, to raise awareness for things, bring attention to others, or just because people like food and jazz. I could see myself living here after college, there are plenty parts of San Antonio that I haven't yet explored in my 22 years of living here.

Majors: I'm a comm arts student, majoring in journalism with a minor in english. The biggest difficulties that I've found have been with coming up with the money to pay for school. I live on my own, with no help from anyone and it is a private school. I haven't had to take out a loan thus far other than what fasfa gives. The application process is easy, most people who apply get accepted. The comm arts is the best program I believe we have here next to fashion because it's very close, you're able to network with professor's who are or know people who are in the field you want to be in. Your chances of getting a job offer are high, and all classes freshmen through senior work together.

Campus Housing: I love the campus housing, they have always been very homy, clean and welcoming. I'm now a junior and have seen the building of new campus apartments that are absolutely beautiful and accompany all student needs I believe.

4 Recent Alumnus

Off-Campus Dining: Off campus dining is great, we are right in the heart of downtown San Antonio, there are many places to go eat that are friendly to the pocket as well as health. Most students who don't drive, can take public transportation to places of choice.

The University of the Incarnate Word has so much to offer. From the academics and excellent professors to the life-long friendships, you will not look back and regret coming to UIW. Most of the students really enjoy their experience at UIW. The friendships formed here usually last through college and beyond. There are also more genuine friendships since UIW is a small school, and keeping in contact with fellow classmates is very easy because you see the same people almost daily. UIW is a very diverse school, so it is like a "small world." The memories formed at UIW are endless.

The education is top-of-the-line, as it thoroughly prepares each student to excel in his or her desired field of study. The smaller atmosphere allows for more personal attention for each student. The relationships between students and teachers is very strong, and professors know students by their names because of the low student-to-teacher ratio. Sure, you will hear complaints here and there, whether it be about residence life or the cafeteria food, but keep in mind that everyone has different tastes, and nothing is perfect. Overall, students are very satisfied with their education at UIW and all that it brings them not only while they are in school but after they graduate as well. Professors and advisers make sure that their students are more than prepared for their careers and for whatever life may bring in the future.
