Facts & Statistics

Tips for Getting In
  • High school performance (e.g., GPA, class rank, and standardized test scores) is a highly important, if not decisive, factor of admission, so get those grades up and up while you still can!
  • Take advantage of UT Dallas' rolling admission by applying early. The generous, merit-driven distribution of scholarships can deplete University's budget very fast, so finish your paperwork way ahead of the deadline to not miss out on anything.
  • The University's young history means that it yearns for recognition and passion from both its current and prospective students. Thus, in your application, show some serious interest in the University to boost your chances.
  • UT Dallas emphasizes a research- and profession-focused education, so an academic background with lab or work experience may work wonders for you. If you prefer a more liberal arts college education, you may want to look at other options.
Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Ah, the Dining Hall! Requiring freshmen to eat there twice a day while overcharging those without a meal plan, the Dining Hall always seems out of students' favor. A big part of it is the fact that the management tends to oversell itself to prospective students, making reality so much harsher when it hits.
  • Greek life, while not too popular on campus, can really enrich your college experience at UT Dallas if you give it a good try. The Greek organizations usually recruit very early each semester, so keep a watch out for their fliers and announcements around August and January.
  • The shortage of campus housing catches a lot of students by surprise, many of whom lose their housing stipend because the University doesn't help pay for off-campus rent.
  • UT Dallas is quite generous when it comes to scholarships. Even if you don't qualify for the Academic Excellence Scholarship, it's worth looking out for other grants from the UT system, the academic departments, and other foundations.
Interviews & Information Sessions
Call (800) 889-2443 (toll free) on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. (EST) to ask the Enrollment Services staff. Interviews are not yet a part of the application process at UT Dallas. However, you can schedule online -at an appointment with an admission counselor and interview him or her about UT Dallas.
Campus Tours
As of present, only walking tours are available on campus because of the current construction and renovation sites. These tours start at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on weekdays, and you can call in advance to schedule a tour of 10 or more people. Scheduling for a tour can be done at
Overnight Visits
Visitors opting to stay overnight on campus in the summer can reserve rooms in the residence hall. The rate for one person per night starts at $30, and there's also an option to purchase three meals at the dining hall for $20.40. To organize an overnight event and reserve rooms, visit, and fill out the form.
Did You Know?
  • For a pleasant walk around campus, schedule your visit any time from October to March. Winter days are rarely too cold, while fall and spring at UTD are simply beautiful. If, despite the sometimes triple-digit weather, you still want to visit in the summer, make sure to bring sunglasses and sunscreen.
  • Students commonly notice that the dining hall offers better food when a big group of visitors eat there. Thus, if you want to have a meal at the dining hall when you visit, it might be a good idea to go with 10 or more people. Don't let the quality of the food deceive you, though.
