2 College Senior

Parking: Parking is awful throughout Austin so it is not feasible to drive to campus unless you have a parking permit. Those are usually fairly expensive but necessary if you have to drive to campus.

3 College Senior

Campus Food: The food isn't terrible, and if you are on a meal plan it is affordable. It is a little expensive for those who don't stay in the dorms though.

5 College Senior

Overall Experience: I have absolutely loved my time at the University of Texas at Austin. It has flown by!

4 College Senior

Campus Quality: There are TONS of social/ service/ academic clubs and organizations! Sometimes the choices can be overwhelming!

5 College Senior

Campus Quality: There are always places to go and things to do in and around campus. There is some sort of campus event almost every day! The gym is HUGE.

4 College Senior

Technology: I've never had a problem using computer labs. The labs are usually furnished with the latest technology. There are also PC and MAC labs for those who have a difficult time using one system or the other. Printing costs do add up though.

3 College Senior

Scholarships: I didn't have much guidance with the financial aid process.

3 College Senior

Off-Campus Housing: I have lived in two places off-campus and I had never had problems finding a place to live, but the closer to campus a place is the more expensive it will be.

5 College Senior

Administration: Academic policies are very strict and any sort of cheating or academic dishonesty requires strict punishment. However the school is not socially strict allowing for an environment in which students can freely exchange ideas.

5 College Senior

Academics: UT offers a fantastic education and world-class professors. There are plenty of comfortable facilities for studying.

5 College Senior

Academics: I enjoy my classes and I have been lucky to have had great professors. There is a lot of work and reading to do every day, but it is well worth it.

5 College Senior

Greek Life: Be sure you choose a good sorority/ fraternity. There is a lot of hazing at UT and it is tough for the University to regulate it. I would highly suggest joining a non-Greek sorority/fraternity.

3 College Senior

Campus Housing: It really all depends on what dorm you are staying in. They vary greatly, so make sure you research thoroughly before choosing a dorm to live in. Talk to people who have lived in the dorms if possible.

5 College Senior

Off-Campus Dining: Austin has great restaurants and there are tons around the school to choose from.

4 College Freshman

Party Scene: There is always something going on on the weekends. Many students go downtown to enjoy the clubs on the weekends.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: The cost of living off campus is extremely expensive. There is not a lot of availability so students have to sign leases fast and right away.

3 College Freshman

Campus Quality: The social scene at my university makes it different from other schools because many students are different. Keep Austin weird is our motto and it sure does apply.

4 College Freshman

Campus Quality: The libraries are very useful and always clean and organized. There are lots of places for students to hang out.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: The dorm I am staying at is farther from my classes than other dormitories. The dorms are old and not spacious at all.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Many students go to downtown Austin to drink and consume alcohol and it is easy for them to do so. Also, sororities and fraternities are a big deal at my school and many of them host parties.

3 College Freshman

Administration: The strictness is mediocre overall. The administration does care about attendance. The dorms are strict about alcohol and drug use.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: I did not receive as much financial as I had anticipated. I also did not receive any scholarships and I worked extremely hard to get some.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: The campus offers a program that escorts students around campus.

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: Many students are into the partying scene. There are many guys and girls who are stuck up. However there are some that are humble and always helpful.

5 College Freshman

Academics: The professors are always wanting to help students grow. The school offers tutoring everyday and many other options to help students succeed. There is always somewhere to go to study.

Most students agree that they have loved their time here at UT, and they wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. College is the best time of your life, and I can’t think of a better place to spend it than at the University of Texas. Students get a great education while having an awesome college town with everything at their disposal. Don’t try to graduate early. Enjoy your time at UT—go cheer on the Longhorns at all the home games for all sports: football, basketball, baseball, intramurals. See the amenities that the Forty Acres has to offer—the Harry Ransom Center, go to our libraries and see our more than eight million volumes. Go to Gregory Gym and the Rec Center—you have a free gym membership for four years or more—use it.

I came to UT convinced that I was going to transfer to a school in California in the spring. I spent two days here before school started and I never wanted to leave, even to go home and visit my parents and high school friends! I couldn’t leave because I was always afraid that I would miss something because there was always something exciting going on. If you are worried about the fact that UT is so big, don’t. All you have to do is find your niche, and everything else should fall into place. You can find it within your dorm, apartment, organization, fraternity, sorority, or classmates. Although, at times, it may seem overwhelming, UT is not nearly as big as it sounds. All you have to do is make friends, which you will, and the campus will seem infinitely smaller. Come join us!
