3 College Junior

Health & Safety: I personally feel safe around campus even during the early morning, or late evening hours. Although recently we had a murder of a student on campus. That caused the school to increase security, cops, lights, etc.

Campus Housing: Living on campus has its advantages and disadvantages. The dorms are relatively small and costly compared to the cost of living in apartments. However, by living in the dorms you have easier access to food, amenities, class, and creating a positive social atmosphere.

Greek Life: Greek life is considerably big in the student community. Majority of off campus housing are surrounded by fraternities or sororities. Thus, creating an atmosphere of a party school to those that are visiting the campus. To non-Greeks, Greek is seen as an opportunity to party and relax, however, they are also seen as a disruption and obnoxious.

Athletics: The athletics at my school is top tier, they have produced and acquired some of the top athletes of our time. Our student involvement and support are at the peak, the student body shows up for all types of sporting events. My school's team performance is considerably well overall, however it is lacking in football.

Overall Experience: My overall experience at school can be described as conflicting. There were fun, memorable, enjoyable times, and there were times where I struggled to where it seemed like my future was not like I planned. However, through the struggles and happiness I have come to find that college is more on learning about yourself than really anything else. College is a stepping stone in life, to help oneself discover who they really are. My school is unique when it comes to the staff and students, not only do the students work hard they also play hard. If I had a choice to do it all over again, I would choose to come to this school with a major rather than being undeclared. Because being undeclared poses a lot of unsettling difficulties.

Health & Safety: It is mostly safe if you go during the day and stay on campus, otherwise it is shaky if you go at night time.

Overall Experience: You can tell there are snobby and kinda prejudiced people, but they're far outnumbered by those just looking to attend a great university.

Overall Experience: People really respect UT degrees. Internship fairs are rampant, and the upperclassmen I know in business or engineering already have great prospects. Liberal arts still has terrible prospects, however.

Health & Safety: A lot of people feel unsafe after the murder this semester, but I think it's generally a very safe place to be. The increased police presence isn't really reassuring; it actually makes it seem more dangerous. I feel safe, but I think people less privileged don't always.

Most students agree that they have loved their time here at UT, and they wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. College is the best time of your life, and I can’t think of a better place to spend it than at the University of Texas. Students get a great education while having an awesome college town with everything at their disposal. Don’t try to graduate early. Enjoy your time at UT—go cheer on the Longhorns at all the home games for all sports: football, basketball, baseball, intramurals. See the amenities that the Forty Acres has to offer—the Harry Ransom Center, go to our libraries and see our more than eight million volumes. Go to Gregory Gym and the Rec Center—you have a free gym membership for four years or more—use it.

I came to UT convinced that I was going to transfer to a school in California in the spring. I spent two days here before school started and I never wanted to leave, even to go home and visit my parents and high school friends! I couldn’t leave because I was always afraid that I would miss something because there was always something exciting going on. If you are worried about the fact that UT is so big, don’t. All you have to do is find your niche, and everything else should fall into place. You can find it within your dorm, apartment, organization, fraternity, sorority, or classmates. Although, at times, it may seem overwhelming, UT is not nearly as big as it sounds. All you have to do is make friends, which you will, and the campus will seem infinitely smaller. Come join us!
