Off-Campus Housing: My Version – i don't have off campus housing so i really cant give a review on it but from what i hear its way cheaper then on-campus and the farther from campus the cheaper it is. Apartment like riverside go for $400 a month utilities included

Diversity: Austin in general is very liberal and accepting of other cultures or beliefs. There are a variety of churches near campus, including a Church of Scientology.

Campus Food: Vegetarian Hell – $1400 dollars a year to eat at the dining halls around campus and $300 to be used at certain restaurants near campus. Jester City Limits is the main dining hall because its right in the center of campus and there is a variety of food to choose from, but vegetarians are very limited. The options are basically the same every day: sandwich, chicken, hamburgers, or some variation of that. The food quality is just above cafeteria food so its not too bad. Also, the food is WAY overpriced and the Dine-In dollars calculate out to where you could only spend about $4 a day, definitely not enough to survive for those who eat more than one meal a day.

Scholarships: Aided With Ease – My financial aid was easy to obtain. The process was not stressful like I assumed. I filled out the forms, waited for the results, and used what I was given.

Administration: After Hours Patrol – People that patrol the doors after guest hours are there for the right reasons, but sometimes the people that watch the doors take their jobs too serious. They constantly make residents slide their IDs even though they see them back to back. My residency status will not change within five minutes, so it does not make sense to keep making me slide in. And then sometimes the people get rude when you mess up a few times. Patience is required in their job, so if they lack that then they should reconsider what they are doing.

Health & Safety: Walkers, Drivers and Bikers – The University of Texas at Austin is a great campus to be on daily. Overall, I feel pretty safe unless I am trying to walk across the street. Walkers, drivers and bikers all move around focused on their own destinations. Their safety, as well as others, is put in danger. Pedestrians rarely stop at the intersections to see if a car or bike is coming. Most of the time, they do not even use the crosswalks. They act as if the roles are switched and they own the streets. Pedestrians seem to forget that if a car or bike does not see them, they will be the ones that get harmed the most. Cars rush to get through places when they see pedestrians coming. Once one person walks across the street, many more seem to follow. After waiting for people to cross, some drivers get aggravated to the point they speed carelessly. Bike riders speed through four-ways, and down hills. I have only been here for a semester and I have seen multiple people collide or just fall off their bikes. Before coming to UT, I pondered buying a bike, but I feel so much safer without one. This issue is not because of any rules or regulations; it is simply because the students choose to do these things. If students keep this UT mentality of walking across the street, pedaling however and whenever they want, or driving recklessly anywhere else, I truly worry about them.

Campus Housing: Living on campus is the most conveneint option because the library, your classes, the gym and places to eat are all located within walking distance. I live in San Jacinto, which I believe is the best option. It is very clean and the rooms there are the biggest. The only negative thing is that dorms are outrageously expensive.

Campus Food: Good but Over Priced. There is a good amount of food and dinig options on campus except the food can get very pricey. While the dining halls are cheaper the food is good for the first few times then it gets super repetative and boring. There are so healthy options which is nice, but I wish there were more.

Academics: Business Marketing – My major is Business Marketing. While I have only been at school for one semester, I have been made aware of the awesome various opportunties for jobs and internships through the school. The curriculum is very organized for each major and the advisors have proved to be helpful thus far. I am impressed.

Campus Quality: Something for Everyone – There are so many different opportunities to be involved on campus and off campus. There is something for everyone whether you are artsy,, involved in your church, or looking to be a part of greek life. There are also many opportunities for outside of campus activities! Many parks and outdoor things to do as well as clubs to join in the community.

Off-Campus Dining: Choices, Choices, Choices – There isn't anything that can't be found when searching for some good eats in and around the University of Texas in Austin. There are so many uniquely beautiful and scrumptious places to eat in Austin. There is something for everyone. Also, it is very convenient to be able to use Bevo Bucks at some of the local restaurants! Be sure to check out Kerby Lane, located on The Drag, it's open 24 hours a day and never fails to be delicious!

Party Scene: The atmosphere at night is full of energy. Students who are 21 or older have easy access in enjoying their weekend at clubs, bars and house parties. Sixth street in Austin is known to be one of the most popular places for students of age to attend. However, for those who are under 21 usually hang out with close friends. The view at night is amazing.

Campus Quality: Student Union Is Very Social – The student union recently built at the University is a great building that not only allows students to socialize with each other but also is a great place to study, eat, and host different theatre clubs or improv organizations in their open reserved rooms.

3 College Freshman

Technology: The Costing of Printing – Although our computer labs, high speed internet, availability to WiFi, and the access to computers in the library are all very generous and caring on behalf of the University, the price of printing isn't. As a first year college student, I have been focusing on my grades and organizations which do not allow me to have time for a job outside of the University. This only means that when an assignment is needed to be printed, the money being used to print comes from my pocket and leaves me on low financial needs. It would definitely be great if we each owned our own printer not only to save time but money too.

Campus Quality: Beautiful campus, buildings all very close together. Many new, impressive-looking buildings are being erected, but the engineering buildings are still quite old and terribly neglected.

5 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: You Been Hitting the Gym? There are all sorts of guys and girls on campus. And a lot of them are athletically fit. There isn't a second that goes by where you don't pass an attractive person.

4 College Freshman

Campus Food: Food Is Not Bad – Compared to eating a home cooked meal I would definitely choose eating at home, but it is still well prepared. Also there is a lot of variety in what you can eat.

5 College Freshman

Academics: Excellent Learning Experience – I came to the University of Texas at Austin because engineering is my interest and the program for it here is enriching. The teachers work hard to help you understand the topics, and offer as much help as humanly possible.

4 College Freshman

Weather: It's usually hot and sunny during the summers, and just a little cool in the morning. It never snows and hardly hails or rains hard enough to where it's a trouble to get to class. Students are always hanging out outside.

3 College Freshman

Parking: Permit costs are kind of high, but cars are not needed on campus. There are 4 bus routes just to get around campus. Buses are all free for students are help A LOT. If you choose to bring a car, parking can be a hassle.

5 College Freshman

Athletics: Our teams are great and work hard. Almost every student is a fan, the amount of school spirit is refreshing. Gregory Gym is a great place to work out. There are so many sports, anyone could find an activity to join.

5 College Freshman

Scholarships: Apply Early, Be Persistent – I applied for my finical aid early, i got all of my school paid for with fafsa it was amazing seeing the money come in. Make sure you do scholarships, i pay about 900 dollars to live on an apartment about ten minutes from campus opposed to paying 10,000. Be persistent with scholarships, don't be lazy!

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Great School Spirit, Great School. If anyone has an opportunity of coming here they should take it. There is nothing like going to school in austin. You have to remember to put school before social life though because its really day to fall behind.

Most students agree that they have loved their time here at UT, and they wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. College is the best time of your life, and I can’t think of a better place to spend it than at the University of Texas. Students get a great education while having an awesome college town with everything at their disposal. Don’t try to graduate early. Enjoy your time at UT—go cheer on the Longhorns at all the home games for all sports: football, basketball, baseball, intramurals. See the amenities that the Forty Acres has to offer—the Harry Ransom Center, go to our libraries and see our more than eight million volumes. Go to Gregory Gym and the Rec Center—you have a free gym membership for four years or more—use it.

I came to UT convinced that I was going to transfer to a school in California in the spring. I spent two days here before school started and I never wanted to leave, even to go home and visit my parents and high school friends! I couldn’t leave because I was always afraid that I would miss something because there was always something exciting going on. If you are worried about the fact that UT is so big, don’t. All you have to do is find your niche, and everything else should fall into place. You can find it within your dorm, apartment, organization, fraternity, sorority, or classmates. Although, at times, it may seem overwhelming, UT is not nearly as big as it sounds. All you have to do is make friends, which you will, and the campus will seem infinitely smaller. Come join us!
