4 College Freshman

Technology: You need a computer because a lot of classes have online homework. Some people would rather not do all their homework in the library or lab.

Technology: The wireless access is often slow and unavailable. A personal computer and printer are very important to avoid the hassle of not having a computer in the lab available.

Technology: It meets my needs most of the time.

Technology: BRING YOUR OWN PERSONAL COMPUTER AND PRINTER. I cannot stress that enough. The availability of computer labs are fine here on campus, but it is general knowledge that you will need that here at UT.

Vast improvements have taken place in the last several years in regards to technology. Computers are accessible to students, and the network is speedy enough to satisfy those accustomed to DSL and cable networks. No matter how many computers are on campus, nothing beats having a computer of your own. Very few people come to Knoxville without one, and you will probably regret not having a personal computer when the labs are crowded or inconvenient.

UT’s computer store, located in the UC, has just about every software application you will need, and most of the hardware you might need, as well. If computers have not been a big part of your life so far, you will be surprised how dependant you become. Downloading music and communicating with friends are only the tip of the iceberg. Many class-related needs can be fulfilled on a computer, and it is commonly a priority to set up your computer on UT’s network the day that you arrive.
