Health & Safety

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: I always feel safe at school and around my classmates and professors. You do have to keep in mind that we live very close to the downtown area, so you need to be aware of your surroundings. I have never been scared for my safety at UTC.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: I have never had a safety problem on campus and I know that our school has a great security team watching out for the students and faculty.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I have not personally had to worry about safety or security issues on campus, so I would say due to that fact it is in good shape. If I did have any security issues, I would know exactly where to go and feel confident that I would be helped by the UTC campus police.

5 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I never worry about getting in trouble or getting raped most of the time when I am out on campus.

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: It's safer than most schools, but it is easy for homeless people to roam on campus considering the location. Just don't be stupid and be by yourself at night if you're a girl.

UTC has its own campus police unit located on campus in the Administration Building. Police are seen driving through campus at all times of the day and night. The security guards at UTC patrol the insides and outsides of the buildings at all times. Campus police are very quick about filing a police report and helping students in any possible way.

Overall, students at UTC feel safe on campus. Many reported that theft is the most frequent crime and advised students to always lock their dorm rooms and vehicles. Many students appreciate the UTC security guards and on-campus police, but some feel that UTC needs extra protection. UTC offers Mocs Express, which is a golf cart escort service for students who do not want to walk late at night to their dorms or who are too intoxicated to walk on their own. There are also blue-light emergency boxes located throughout campus. These blue lights allow students to automatically connect with the police department and tell the dispatcher the location of the student. Most students think these are the best campus security features.
