Off-Campus Housing: It's very expensive to live off-campus unless you rent a poorly built house or you find an apartment far enough to where the prices are lower. Living off-campus 99% of the time requires the student to have a car which can also add to unnecessary costs. The only nice thing about living off-campus is the freedom of having your own rules.

Party Scene: Unless you're 21 the nightlife is pretty lame. House parties will occur here and there between sports teams and greek life but that's only occasionally. If a bar is 18+ they make it very difficult for you to have a fun time and fill up really quick so you're stuck waiting in line forever. The students are a lot of fun and can definitely enjoy themselves there's just not enough opportunities to mostly because house parties get shut down so fast by Tampa PD.

Off-Campus Dining: Off-campus dining is delicious and it brings a very modern and fun city environment with it but, it can get pricey. So, if you're on a budget it's not really an option. The different restaurants and cafe's offer a lot of variety and there are plenty of healthy places to eat at and then there's also fun sports bars and unique eating experiences.

Administration: The campus security does rounds around all the buildings which is reassuring being in a city environment however, it can be annoying on a weekend when you're hanging out and get noise complaints. If you have any complaints of drugs or alcohol they will also tear your room apart until it is found. Campus security will also post inside of the halls in front of the elevators to make sure you're a student at UT which is again, reassuring but, also annoying because of the privacy of walking in late at night to your building.

Scholarships: The financial aid process scholarship wise was very easy and the school did most of the work. To receive scholarships you only need a good GPA and ACT/SAT. As for other financial aid, it was a tedious process but the school offered a lot of extra help and ways to get financial aid.

Campus Food: There are good and bad days when eating at the dining halls. For one, a lot of the dining options have limiting hours. Second, the food is very unhealthy and the only healthy food either isn't available at all times or cost spartan dollars which is inconvenient. The variety of the cafeteria food is also not the best. The meals generally are all the same and the flavor is never there. Having a meal plan is also extremely expensive if some days I'm only getting a coffee and a small sandwich. The service at most of the dining halls is poor although compared to other schools I've been to, UT has better options for on-campus eating.

Campus Housing: The dorms are all very close to academic buildings and two of the dorm buildings have dining halls on the first floor which is more convenient for students. There's a study room on most of the floors in the dorms and a spacious community room in every building for studying or fun activities. Some of the freshmen dorms are really tight and small but they also only have first floor dorms connected outside so it's not too bad. The best option features kitchens and really nice bathroom facilities. Most dorms have suite style bathrooms and only one has community style.

Party Scene: The aren't any house parties on campus you'll have to go off campus to go to a party or club.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: From what I see there are a few of off campus dining options. You'll have to walk a couple of minutes from the university

3 College Freshman

Administration: They are okay if they are not receiving any complaints. If they do and go to the room or place they are very strict

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: I received some financial aid but not much, I wish I received more.

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: What bothers me the most is that we are very limited in food options, even the caf is extremely limited, the food options there are repeated unless they have random days where it changes.

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: To live on Campus at the University of Tampa is really "homey" the housing buildings are all in a central area. Except for a select few that is further from the main buildings. The dorm rooms are a nice size, greater in size than some other dorm rooms. This upcoming fall I will be staying at Morsoni Hall. To me all the on campus housing selections are good choices except maybe McKay or the Boathouse, even though I have not lived I either buildings, From what I have heard each dorm room besides the Barrymore Hotel which is a housing option that is off campus, has a desk and closet for each person in the room. There is central air conditioning throughout all the buildings so we do not have to worry about Air Conditioners. How the school is laid out helps because you can quickly walk to any building within 5 minutes from each other more or less.

Health & Safety: The Student Health Center requires a creepy and unethical, thorough physical examination including genitalia which is absolutely a violation of student privacy and not relevant at all to state mandated vaccinations or other pertinent information every other institution requires. I was HIGHLY OFFENDED by this requirement and feel strongly it is actually a strict violation of HIPPA.

Local Area: The area immediately surrounding the school is nothing but run-down mixed industrial/residential (as Florida has very poor zoning laws) ghetto. Off campus housing is plentiful within two miles of the university. The problem is that with the exception of the limited number of high-rise downtown condominiums the actual houses in the area are dilapidated, and surrounded by horrid neighborhoods that are clearly not safe to live in. There is also an extreme lack of cultural diversity which leads to a great deal of racial and economic tension because on campus UT students are primarily privileged and white, while off campus people are primarily poor and black. Do we watch the news? Do we understand what happens in these situations? Right.

Overall Experience: I wish I could get back my time and money. I feel heartbroken by what I have suffered here, I couldn't afford this hit to my academic career in terms to time and money and most of all optimism and drive that was lost directly as a result by what I have suffered at the hands of this administration. Be careful, because you can only ever go forward in life and never backwards to re-do the past. That is why I am sacrificing my time here today to warn others. I felt strongly it was my civic duty to report on what students would be getting into with the violent crime, the lack of adequate housing, the unreasonably cost, the lack of administrative and advising support, the unethical behavior of the Financial Aid department. Look, I am a student with a 3.6 GPA that is married to an active duty soldier and volunteers to take care of disabled veterans that are purple heart recipients and I didn't get one penny from Financial Aid to cover the cost of this outrageous tuition, I didn't even get honesty and respect…so what do you realistically think your chances are?

Overall Experience: After a year…I STILL do not have a student Email account, I still can't get an answer about a student ID card, I still have literally NOTHING but disappointment and frustration to show as a result of my attempt to get an education out of this school.

1 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Please don't make the same mistake I did and pour your heart, money, and time into getting into this school and trying to get an education out of it. There is a reason it is not a well-known school, and I firmly believe along with other students that they capitalize on the sunny Tampa weather to attract tourist-students from the Northeast that have no real way of researching the environment they are getting themselves into or the organizational culture of University of Tampa both of which are far, far, far below the standards I would accept for my loved ones. I wasn't allowed to even select my own classes, I wasn't allowed to speak to a caring advising staff, I was offered ZERO administrative support, and was actually lied to which I have proof of in writing. The ethical considerations here weigh heavy, especially when you weigh in the outrageous safety concerns and drugs/hard core criminals that live less than a mile of where yourself or loved one would be living even in on-campus housing which is never guaranteed. Even when you pay your housing deposit very early, sometimes students are placed in low budget motels/hotels OFF campus which is NOT what their parents and Federal Aid is paying University of Tampa to provide. I would be infuriated as a parent or student if I had actually paid for On campus housing and myself or my child ended up off campus in the ghetto with no car and absolutely no security or anyone to look after safety except for after a crime is being committed the ability to call City Police and report the assault/offense. Absolutely DO NOT apply to this school sight-unseen you MUST go drive around Downtown Tampa and see the horrific ghettos that surround the UT campus like vultures surrounded a carcass.

Athletics: Doesn't even have a football team. And they wonder why there is zero school spirit? How can you not even have a football team?

1 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: University of Tampa is surrounded by tiny 1930s tear-downs which are in shambles and create a historic ghetto that is infamous to anyone at all familiar with the city of Tampa. There are a lot of bums wandering the streets, it is notoriously unsafe with many violent crimes against students, and students should NEVER set foot off of campus on foot. Having a car is essential not to getting places, but to getting places ALIVE and without being the victims of many types of violent crimes. Ybor City is a historic tear-down in and of itself, offers very pitiful nightlife opportunities which is part of and surrounded by dangerous downtown ghetto surrounded by dilapidated houses and gang/drug activity. Most of the tiny houses surrounding the campus that make up this ghetto have bars on the windows and ADT signs in the yards, in addition to numbers (no loitering, no trespassing) signs that suggest there is a serious problem with loitering (probably because of all the bums and their public drinking). Many students complain they become involved with drugs at this school because number one, they live in such close proximity to they ghetto so dealers are lurking on every corner, and two because they are convinced there is 'nothing to do' to have fun in the area. There are many tourist attractions, very few of which are affordable for college students and all of which require safe and reliable transportation which the school does not provide. The lack of safety, lack of services, lack of involvement to save students from becoming drug addicts on part of the administration at UT is INEXCUSABLE especially considering it's overwhelmingly high cost.

Administration: The administration has FAILED ME GREATLY! I cannot emphasize that enough. Paige Howard my admissions councilor, who is supposed to be the Associate Director of Admissions was constantly rude and uncaring to me. Telling me last year (yes it took a year just to get in) that they were full that semester so she was just going to cancel my application. I said NO I put all this work into applying and jumping through all your administrative hoops you need to just move me to the upcoming semester, so by the time they finally got around to offering me admission for the Summer (nearly a year later) it was too late to accept and get all paperwork and requirements completed in time to attend. So I had to be moved once again to the upcoming semester, Fall 2015. At that point Paige Howard actually had the audacity to say to me, "You had better hurry up and accept or not cause I have 2,000 other students waiting to take your place." So rude! So dismissive and uncaring to what THEY were putting ME through and making it so OBVIOUS they didn't care if I attended their or not I was just a number in a long line of applicants so they couldn't care less. And then they decided through no fault of my own, after I did pay my enrollment deposit, to take away the funding they had promised me to pay for school in my admissions packet without so much as a conversation about it. Saying they had failed to properly qualify me in the first place so…if I didn't qualify for Pell Grant (which I don't have 10 illegitimate kids by 10 different men so I don't) then I don't get any money for school whatsoever because I have too many college credits (with high grades by the way) to qualify for scholarships. Which is about the most backwards and idiotic thing I have ever heard of. DONT GO HERE!!!

1 College Sophomore

Scholarships: HORRIFYING!!! I was lied to and taken advantage of, it was a horribly unethical experience that I am trying to find ways to publicize and warn other students about. I was originally awarded $10,000 upon admission which would have covered a significant portion of the extremely high cost of attendance at this school, however, the MOMENT they got my money via Enrollment Deposit (which they pushed and pushed for) they immediately revoked my scholarship! No conversation, no apology, no help, no compassion, no explanation. All that money, my only way to pay tuition at all, gone. Now I was out $300 as well because they took my enrollment deposit. They said oopsie-doodle they had not actually taken the time to qualify me for the scholarship as stated in the letter (so they outright LIED TO ME IN WRITING) but they don't even offer aid at all to post-bachelor students. I was completely wronged and taken advantage of by this school. I am hurt, angry, insulted, and left without any way to attend school because I gave up my other offers for admission based on the dishonesty of their scholarship offer in my admissions acceptance package, so now I have no other backup school and I have no scholarship and oh yeah…they still have my enrollment deposit. I also talked to other students that laughed and said, "Welcome to UT…thats what they do. They just get you in the door then they don't really care." This is HIGHLY UNETHICAL BEHAVIOR, I was TRICKED into accepting admission to this school solely based on a LIE and you need to run far far away from these people before they take advantage of you and leave you high and dry the way they did me! Seriously…RUN!!!!!!

Of the many colleges and universities in Florida, the University of Tampa is one of the best places to study and enjoy college life. Not only is UT known for being a great place with high academic standards, but also the diversity and different cultures that are found here make the campus an enjoyable place to be. The amazing weather and location also help—thanks to the fact that Tampa is on the West coast of Florida. There is a wide variety of beaches within minutes of the campus. Also, the nightlife makes the University of Tampa a pretty attractive place for kids who are used to the city style of living.

The school spirit can be felt everywhere, and there is always something to do or an event to attend. Overall, the University of Tampa is a wonderful place to study and also to relax in between coursework. Once you're here, you'll feel like you're home.
