Overall Experience: The professors in my departments are experts in their field and are genuinely passionate about student success. Questions are readily accepted and answered, and I have felt challenged in my area of study. There have been numerous opportunities to learn outside of the classroom, including a field study and research opportunities. These opportunities have shaped me to be the student that I am and have prepared me for graduate study. Class sizes are great for learning; they are not large enough that students are not able to be heard, but are not small enough that they miss out on learning from other students. I would like, specifically with the general education curriculum, for teachers to deviate away from powerpoint and focus on presenting a lecture by discussion or by writing on a white/black board. Many teachers read off of the powerpoint, and the majority of the information presented is already in the book. Students are not learning anything new with this method.

Overall Experience: Career Services is an excellent resource available to students. They provide tips on dressing for success, interviewing, and resume presentation. There are regular career fairs and informational sessions for students to attend. In my department, we have a field study that allows us to network with professionals in a variety of departments, and we also have student organizations for the sole purpose of networking. I see flyers in my building on a regular basis with job opportunities.

Health & Safety: Campus is very safe. There are blue emergency polls located in strategic areas around campus, and campus PD is available 24/7 to monitor buildings and provide transportation to students walking back to their dorm rooms/cars after night class. The campus also uses Eagle Alerts, which is a communication system that notifies students of any bad weather or crimes on campus and in the greater Hattiesburg area. These alerts are sent to cell phones via voicemails and texts and are also emailed as well. Overall, I feel safe walking around campus and in my year college career, have not noticed or have been notified of a significant amount of crime in the area.

Campus Housing: I have lived on campus all four years of college and have absolutely loved it! The experience is like no other--I'm in close proximity to classes, I'm more aware of the campus environment and what activities are available at a specific time, and being involved is significantly easier. I've lived in Century Park, Mississippi Hall, and in sorority housing. Century Park is one of the newest residence halls on campus, so the rooms are very clean, spacious, and modern. This complex is on the outskirts of campus, so it's a longer walk to and from class meetings, but there is a market in the complex where students may purchase food and other necessities. Mississippi Hall was in the center of campus next to the stadium, which I loved! It may tailgating all the more fun and I enjoyed being able to come out of the building and be swept up in the spirited crowds. Sorority housing has by far been my favorite. Though it is also relatively far from classes, this housing option has the greatest send of community. Overall, the housing process is very simple. There have been numerous complications with the ID swipe system, and Residence Life is not quick to fix these issues, but overall, the convenience of on-campus housing outweighs the negatives, in my opinion.

Greek Life: As a student who joined Greek Life as a junior, I am aware of what it means to be both Greek and non-Greek. As a non-Greek, I admired Greek Life and thought of them as aspiring leaders who were passionate about their beliefs. Greeks I encountered weren't afraid to speak their mind and be involved. As a Greek student who supports philanthropy, we as a community have the opportunity to make change and to impact those around us. Though many people associate Greek Life with parties, that is not all that we do. We are a community because many of us share the same attitudes. Each Greek member has different talents, different goals, different opinions, and we use that to our advantage to be the best versions of ourselves. Greek housing is wonderful--most chapters on campus have a nice house, and dues fall in line with the traditional Residence Life fees, with the perks of having a kitchen and a living area.

Overall Experience: Though Southern Miss wasn't my first choice, when I toured, I immediately loved it and have never regretted my decision to attend school here. I love how many involvement opportunities are offered. Through those, I've been challenged and have grown as a person. I've gotten the opportunity to research in my field, have been an orientation leader, a campus tour guide, and have been involved in numerous other opportunities. Southern Miss isn't just a college, it's a community full of people with unique skills and talents who help one another succeed and reach the heights!

Athletics: Campus support of our Southern Miss teams is strong and represented by attendance at games. Football and baseball are by far the most popular, with basketball coming in second. I feel as though volleyball could be supported more! Our athletic center is top notch and provides everything that our student athletes need. We also have the Payne Center, which is an indoor/outdoor recreational facility that consists of an indoor running track, free weight room, indoor swimming pool, rock climbing wall, basketball/volleyball courts, squash/racquetball courts, and outdoor sand volleyball courts. The Payne Center also coordinates intramural sports that are unique and lots of fun! They range from traditional basketball and softball to Mario Kart and battleship! There is something for everyone.

Overall Experience: This is my second semester, and I've already made life-long friends. The professors are easily accessible via email or office visits. It seems like most professors really want to see you succeed. When I see my professors around campus, they always acknowledge me.

Health & Safety: This is very safe. I have walked off campus and around town by myself and felt really safe and comfortable. That is one of the best things about my school, but if I were to walk around the outside community I would not feel safe.

Greek Life: The Greeks have a big influence on the campus, but it is not like they are demeaning non-Greeks all the time.
