3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I like USC a lot, but the classes are really big and there's a lot of red tape. Some buildings are really nice and renovated but some are really old. The chem labs are awful, but it's really easy to get into research with a professor.

Overall Experience: Everything was fine. I just personally think application fees are stupid. Just another way to pad the pockets of the school employees.

Athletics: I am not a big sports fan, but many of the students love the gamecocks.

Athletics: They are okay. Nothing super special to me, but thats because i dont play sports

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I have had a very good experience. The classes are great and have great professors.

5 College Freshman

Athletics: Games are a great time! There is a lot of spirit and tradition during football season, and other sports are fun to attend as well. Baseball and basketball are both pretty highly attended and students get into games.

Overall Experience: USC's student body is fun, and you can always find people who are looking to do something new or adventurous.

Health & Safety: I have not be affected

Overall Experience: As most places, there are excellent professors and there are professors who are not very helpful, and are hard to understand.

Greek Life: As in many situations, the more contacts you have, the more opportunities you have at getting roles you apply for. It seems the same "clicks" are always involved.

Overall Experience: Disappointed in departmental scholarships in Public Health for undergraduates, and ability to get scholarship assistance for out of state students.

Campus Housing: There's a lot of different dorms which vary in niceness/what they offer and also in price range, I haven't been in a lot of them though. Some are co-ed some are not, I think a lot do have visitation policies and things like that. For the most part my experience has been ok.

Health & Safety: The school makes you take alcohol edu and haven in your first semester of attendance, they also provide lectures and info and things like that, a lot of which is through university 101 class, and there are a lot of 'push this button to summon help' boxes around campus, and near the center of campus you generally see campus police on bikes and stuff riding around. I don't really have a lot of classes far out from campus though so I can't really vouch for those areas. I've heard that some of the far out areas of campus (before I came here) used to be not so good, but that for the most part they've cleaned up in recent years.

Overall Experience: For the most part all the teachers I've had have been really nice and intelligent and care about what they are teaching, the really good teachers are the ones who get really into what they are teaching and look all happy and excited when they are standing at the front of the class, though I have had some that I didn't really like, though they weren't necessarily bad, per se. It appears to me that a lot of the courses you start out with are very large lecture halls, but then as you progress the class rooms and class sizes get smaller.

3 College Freshman

Overall Experience: It sound's like the school is heavily involved with this and offer a lot of resources to their students, but I haven't really become involved in it yet.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: There's a variety of clubs here, some of which include fencing and martial arts. They have two athletic facilities that I know of that are gym-ish, though there's more. The Strom Thrumond Fitness Wellness Center is great, it's clean and brightly lit with lots of stuff including two pools, a rockwall, a martial arts room, ping pong, and indoor track, courts, and other stuff, and it's not directed towards solely athletes either.

Greek Life: Greek housing is available near campus. Most non-Greeks I know don't have a good opinion of the Greek life.

Athletics: Football games are great! And, the Strom Athletic Complex is state of the art.

5 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I love the town it's in. I've been able to get involved in activities and I think that's helped me get adjusted.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: There are some cases where something happens but most of the time it's perfectly safe!

5 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Everything about this campus is awesome! The good always seem to outweigh the bad!

Campus Housing: The campus is beautiful but classes are pretty far apart!

Athletics: The gym's are great with everything you could ever need to stay fit!

If there is one word to describe the experiences you will have at USC, it would have to be "unforgettable." Being away from home for the first time at USC is both exciting and scary at times, but the freedom you get when you come here feels natural. It makes you wonder why they don’t send people to college sooner! Academically, there are courses and professors who can make you look at things in ways you never considered before. Facts and figures will be thrown at you, but some of the professors (and your peers) can teach you a lot about life as well. It’s also a very cool thing to see laid-back professors who will sometimes move their classes out onto the Horseshoe lawn.

On top of this, with such a large student population, you will inevitably form new relationships that will last a lifetime. As at any college, the quality of the experience depends on what you put into it. There are thousands of new people to meet, tons of activities going on, and things to learn both in and out of class. Those who don’t take advantage of these opportunities will not get a lot out of their experience here. Some students get tired of being at USC after a while, and some hate it from the start for whatever reason. USC is not the place for everyone, but overall, students seem to be thoroughly enamored with Carolina and wouldn’t trade their title of Gamecocks for anything in the world. There seems to be an aura of its own inherent to the University, and its welcoming vibe is infectious.
