Campus Housing: I love my dorm as it is one of the newest and in close proximity to everything!

Health & Safety: We have law and safety enforcement come and speak at our U101 classes. They also do various demonstrations on campus throughout the year. There are blue lights everywhere.

Technology: On campus, the wifi isn't always the best. The computer lab is in the library and is efficient, but there aren't very many for the amount of students at this school.

Campus Food: There is a pretty decent variety of food selections but most of the food made by the school is bland. There are fast food places like Chik-Fila and Pizza Hut, but the healthy food options are not as available and varietal.

Transportation: University of South Carolina does not do a good job at advertising their transportation system on campus. While there is a shuttle, most students do not use it, either because of the little knowledge they have on it and it is not the most reliable. Most students live off campus so having a car is a necessity. The parking on campus is extremely expensive and hard to find.

Greek Life: I am in a Sorority and absolutely love it. Because the chapters are so big it is hard at times to fit in but once you do it is amazing.

Scholarships: The financial office is extremely nice and will help you if you are having trouble submitting financial aid forms.

Parking: There is a need for a car on campus because to get around off campus, everything is spread out.

Health & Safety: The worst thing regarding safety is muggings and theft, which is why they explain to not walk alone at night. However, there are many safe programs in place such as a walk home program from the library, and shuttles back from downtown on the weekends.

5 College Freshman

Academics: ABSOLUTELY LOVE the major I am in right now. It is hard sometimes depending on your major but some don't start specific classes until their junior year.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

If there is one word to describe the experiences you will have at USC, it would have to be "unforgettable." Being away from home for the first time at USC is both exciting and scary at times, but the freedom you get when you come here feels natural. It makes you wonder why they don’t send people to college sooner! Academically, there are courses and professors who can make you look at things in ways you never considered before. Facts and figures will be thrown at you, but some of the professors (and your peers) can teach you a lot about life as well. It’s also a very cool thing to see laid-back professors who will sometimes move their classes out onto the Horseshoe lawn.

On top of this, with such a large student population, you will inevitably form new relationships that will last a lifetime. As at any college, the quality of the experience depends on what you put into it. There are thousands of new people to meet, tons of activities going on, and things to learn both in and out of class. Those who don’t take advantage of these opportunities will not get a lot out of their experience here. Some students get tired of being at USC after a while, and some hate it from the start for whatever reason. USC is not the place for everyone, but overall, students seem to be thoroughly enamored with Carolina and wouldn’t trade their title of Gamecocks for anything in the world. There seems to be an aura of its own inherent to the University, and its welcoming vibe is infectious.
