Weather: The local weather is amazing. The few times it has rained or been cold is very bearable since there are so many days where the weather happens to be simply perfect. There are days when it has been uncomfortably hot around the late spring and early fall semester when it's August. It is hard to want to go to class when it's so beautiful out, but most students suffer through and go to class.

Academics: I love my major and the department works very hard to help all of those in it. The program aligns with similar programs at other universities. Workload isn't too easy nor too hard, depending on how you set your schedule and the amount of hours you decide to take. Even at the minimum amount of hours available to take, it is still a workload that isn't too hard to keep up with. Internships and job opportunities are definitely easier to find in my major than others, but competition against others applying is the hard part.

Academics: Professors are great, however most students, including myself would prefer if in the more difficult subject areas there were more professors who spoke English or were more fluent. Registration process has had it's complaints, but varies. I've had easy registration processes and then some more difficult. 90-98% of students can be found studying in the main library on campus and business students can be found generally in the business school library since it offers a more quiet, focused atmosphere.

Transportation: Transportation could be better for those without.

Party Scene: Nightlife is great, more options for would be better

4 College Senior

Diversity: Most everyone is welcomed on campus.

Campus Food: There are plenty of options to eat on campus and they're all pretty good. Most people get sick of the dining hall (Russell House) pretty quickly though. A few of the places to eat are open late. The only complaint i have is that the meal plan is kind of confusing and the hours of places on campus can be annoying (like some places arent open on weekends).

Greek Life: The Greek life is very prominent on campus. They tend to be pretty snobby but wont admit it. If you're a guy and not in a fraternity, its very hard to get into the parties and even tailgates. If you're a girl thats not in a sorority you still can do whatever you want, but feel slightly judged for not being part of a "sisterhood". The Greek Village has beautiful houses but not all the Greeks live in the village for many reasons, like getting kicked off campus and being a smaller than others.

Overall Experience: Everyone is very proud to go to USC. We love our sports and our state!

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: The system that the school uses is confusing and a hassle, thats the only reason the financial aid process is difficult.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: Theres a lot of theft on campus with bikes or things in cars. I don't feel that unsafe walking alone on campus but many people freak out about it. There are emergency call posts all around campus that you can use to quickly call the cops but I dont usually see cops on campus..There are a ton downtown though. They usually just bust house parties and give out parking tickets. Just respect the cops and you wont get into as much trouble.

4 College Freshman

Party Scene: There are a ton of bars/clubs to go to in Five Points and The Vista. A lot of freshmen go to the 18+ ones like Sharkys and Backcorner. They are pretty strict on IDs but once you have a fake, you're good. Sometimes they have cover charges and sometimes they dont. You can easily get a drink once inside from the shot girls but not from the bar.

Campus Housing: Patterson is the newest and nicest dorm on campus but its all girls and its not that fun. Its known for being boring and full of stuck up girls. Its one of the closer dorms. Then theres Bates which is the worst and oldest dorm. Its very far away and resembles jail...but it is known for being fun and social. SoTo (South Tower) is close to Patterson but its almost as bad as Bates. The Quads are pretty nice but they aren't as close to the middle of campus. Capstone, Honors, and Columbia Hall are average.

Drug Safety: I don't hear much about drugs on campus but theres a lot of alcohol. People drink at tailgates, downtown, and at house parties. Many students also have fake IDs. There isn't as much drinking in dorms because its easier to get caught. Its a $250 ticket if you get caught drinking on campus anywhere (at a football game, in your dorm), but if you're in public (like downtown) thats where the real cops come in and you get in more trouble.

5 College Freshman

Athletics: Football is the biggest sport on campus and they try to get people as pumped about other sports as they are about football but it usually doesn't happen. I know a few people on intramural teams but those sports arent advertised like the other sports.

Diversity: I see people of different races on campus, and theres a dorm for foreign people but overall its mostly white people at USC.

3 College Freshman

Administration: There are select dorms that are strict on visitation and some dorms aren't at all. Like in Patterson you can have guys over until 2am and girls can stay over. I dont think girls can stay for more than 3 days though. I don't hear much about drug problems, its mostly alcohol. If you have any alcohol paraphernalia in your dorm you get a $250 ticket and you can also get the same ticket for public intoxication at a football game...
Parking is something that a lot of people complain about here. Its very easy to get a ticket for anythiiiinggg. Parking in garages is very expensive, starting at $320/semester.

Weather: A lot of the northerners come to USC because the weather is much better here. Its November right now and its still in the 60s. It does get very hot and humid in the summer but its nice because our winters arent that bad. It rarely snows here.

Local Area: Downtown Columbia has a lot of things to do but its not a huuuuge city. The mall and a lot of other things to do are in a close city called Irmo. Most of the locals are big fans of USC so they love the college kids. Theres a few small schools close to USC but we don't interact much.

4 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: Most people at USC are preppy without trying too hard. Everyone usually looks pretty good and dresses well. I'd say guys dress better because they wear actual clothes while girls wear comfortable clothes like big shirts and leggings, but still look cute.

2 College Sophomore

Technology: its ok I like to have my own computer to have for myself but I usually always have mine with me

Campus Housing: decent could use some extermination but decent

2 College Sophomore

Administration: not too bad a little strict but overall very good

Campus Housing: depends on your preferences and how much you wish to spend.

Athletics: The Gamecocks have a great stadium, practice field, and workout areas. A few years ago they completed an exercise facility for the student body that is completely state of the art.

If there is one word to describe the experiences you will have at USC, it would have to be "unforgettable." Being away from home for the first time at USC is both exciting and scary at times, but the freedom you get when you come here feels natural. It makes you wonder why they don’t send people to college sooner! Academically, there are courses and professors who can make you look at things in ways you never considered before. Facts and figures will be thrown at you, but some of the professors (and your peers) can teach you a lot about life as well. It’s also a very cool thing to see laid-back professors who will sometimes move their classes out onto the Horseshoe lawn.

On top of this, with such a large student population, you will inevitably form new relationships that will last a lifetime. As at any college, the quality of the experience depends on what you put into it. There are thousands of new people to meet, tons of activities going on, and things to learn both in and out of class. Those who don’t take advantage of these opportunities will not get a lot out of their experience here. Some students get tired of being at USC after a while, and some hate it from the start for whatever reason. USC is not the place for everyone, but overall, students seem to be thoroughly enamored with Carolina and wouldn’t trade their title of Gamecocks for anything in the world. There seems to be an aura of its own inherent to the University, and its welcoming vibe is infectious.
