Administration: first couple weeks of school police are very prominent but after a month or so less and less you can drink in your room but can't be dumb about it visitation hours depends on residence halls but half have a 4 guess limit and same gender can spend the night but opposite have to leave at 2 am but residence are allowed to vote on allowing this rule to be abolished after second semester also easy ways to get around it like getting a friend thats a girl down the hall to sign your girl in

Off-Campus Housing: lots of choices of where to live off campuses tons of different apartment style living spaces that are extremely nice but also have lots of houses in all different spots available as well and normally cheaper then on campus housing

4 College Freshman

Scholarships: never applied for finical aid or scholarships but heard of lots of people who have in state tutu ion and lots of finical aid

4 College Freshman

Majors: business is decently a great major especially with the beautiful new building but its almost impossible to get into the international business program since were number 1 in the country

4 College Freshman

Majors: couldn't tell you only a freshman

Campus Housing: Depends on what housing you get if you get one of the new residents halls like the quads or patterson you are set and have a beautiful home for the next year but if you get stuck with bates (getting teared down soon) you are far from things and have a bad room i had columbia hall as a freshman which is a far walk compared to must places to everything but a 2 minute walk to 5 points and enjoyed it

5 College Freshman

Athletics: The gym is absolutely amazing and is a must see when touring the football games in the student section is unreal and although our basketball team is not one of the best in the country everyone still goes and supports the team.

Local Area: Lots of attractions around the city is right next to the university theres tons of museums and monuments zoo is very close to the college

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Lots of restaurants all around whatever your looking for they probably have something like that from waffle house to cookout to Ruth's Chris or Ihop in walking distance

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: Just don't walk around at night alone if you're a girl and no one should be walking back from 5 points at night. Other than that it is safe

5 College Senior

Scholarships: I received wonderful help with financial aid! Definitely look at all of your options for financial aid while you're applying, and if you think you may qualify for something, speak up!

Local Area: It is a typical college town, not too small but has much more potential to be better.

4 College Senior

Party Scene: I'm not big on partying myself, but I see people go out literally every night so I'm guessing it is pretty good.

4 College Student

Local Area: I personally love the local area. There's a lot to do and many places to go, I just wish it was a little prettier

Off-Campus Housing: There's a ton of off campus housing available and the majority are fairly priced. You can find some really close to campus and most are safe and what not

Administration: The administration is strict enough to keep the majority of the students safe, but lenient enough so that we have our privacy and get the college experience

Greek Life: At every college, the Greeks are considered snobby and cliquey, but I honestly think it's that's only said due to jealousy. I think the sororities and fraternities contribute to the social atmosphere positively and do great things for our community.

Athletics: Definitely has some of the best athletic facilities and athletes in general

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Some housing is great some is awful

3 College Sophomore

Local Area: Columbia is not very lovable.

3 College Sophomore

Administration: They need to focus on the real issues not the strictness of parking and minor things.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: I think Sexual Assaults need to be taken a lot more serious. But student health services are easily accessible.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: I don't eat off campus much.

5 College Sophomore

Scholarships: They were very helpful! I am part of the Opportunity Scholars Program and I go to school almost for free.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: Athletics run this school. Too bad drinking gets in the way of people actually enjoying the games.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

If there is one word to describe the experiences you will have at USC, it would have to be "unforgettable." Being away from home for the first time at USC is both exciting and scary at times, but the freedom you get when you come here feels natural. It makes you wonder why they don’t send people to college sooner! Academically, there are courses and professors who can make you look at things in ways you never considered before. Facts and figures will be thrown at you, but some of the professors (and your peers) can teach you a lot about life as well. It’s also a very cool thing to see laid-back professors who will sometimes move their classes out onto the Horseshoe lawn.

On top of this, with such a large student population, you will inevitably form new relationships that will last a lifetime. As at any college, the quality of the experience depends on what you put into it. There are thousands of new people to meet, tons of activities going on, and things to learn both in and out of class. Those who don’t take advantage of these opportunities will not get a lot out of their experience here. Some students get tired of being at USC after a while, and some hate it from the start for whatever reason. USC is not the place for everyone, but overall, students seem to be thoroughly enamored with Carolina and wouldn’t trade their title of Gamecocks for anything in the world. There seems to be an aura of its own inherent to the University, and its welcoming vibe is infectious.
