Campus Food: The dining options on campus range from okay to great. But, I feel that the crappy places outweigh the great places. For one, the Sodexo workers, inside of Russell House primarily, can often be very rude and impatient. The have their good days and they have their bad days. The only restaurant inside of Russell that I truly value is Pandini's. Their food is also the best. Bates House Diner is okay for breakfast, but once a friend of mine ate fish from their for lunch and threw up.

Off-Campus Housing: There are many off-campus options. Some are a little pricey

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Get into a rut, choosing the same off-campus restaurants. Mainly look for price and convenience

3 College Freshman

Party Scene: Not into the party scene, but don't hear of any either

4 College Freshman

Administration: Strict rules, but feel at ease when there are any issues

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: Hated the fact of income basis on my parents' when I need to assist with paying on my own.

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: Sometimes hard to utilize the sorority housing meal plan options due to meal times vs. class schedule. Did NOT get my moneys worth, at all. Meals in house could be better.

5 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Nice accommodations. In some need of repair in individual dorms/baths.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: There are plenty of options for off-campus housing in Columbia. So many houses around five points and heading away from campus, plus there are tons of apartment complexes to choose from.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: The off-campus dining is a lot better than the on-campus food, but it just isn't always as convenient due to the fact that it is not free.

Party Scene: There's not really a party scene at USC

Administration: The strictness on campus will vary from person to person based on their dorm and who their professors were. For me, I had professors who for the most part always took attendance, but the RM's on my hall were more lenient. The visitation policy for my dorm had to be the strictest on campus, but it became a little more lenient towards the end of the year.

Scholarships: I didn't really deal with this side of enrollment, but I do know that the system is very glitchy. I don't agree with some of the policies on scholarships either and how easy it is to lose them, especially during your first year as a college student.

Campus Food: The only problems I saw with the USC meal plan were the fact that you can only use a swipe within a certain amount of time or it goes to waste. I think that you should have 3 swipes per day and be able to use them how you want. Also the food was pretty consistently unappetizing. I liked Cafe Verde and Bates the most but Russell House was not bad either

Campus Housing: My experience with living on campus was very enjoyable. I met tons of new people and made friends that I'll have for the rest of my college career and life. My dorm was in a pretty good location and definitely had an awesome social atmosphere, but I'd say it was a little overpriced for the simple fact that it was outdated and old. I had no real problems with the dorm though.

Campus Food: The meal plan availability and costs are ridiculous. Food choices are limited and food workers are rude.

Campus Housing: Living on campus is great at the University of South Carolina - most academic buildings are less than a ten-minute's walk away. The Resident Mentors of the dorms, however, are the only downside; they are very strict.

3 College Freshman

Administration: honors kids have a lot more leniency with most areas mentioned above. kinda unfair but dont be dumb and nothing is too strict

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: lots of paperwork and tax proof but otherwise not the worst. kinda slow

2 College Freshman

Campus Food: Sodexo keeps their lettuce in bleach to preserve its aesthetic aspects and crispness. They dropped a container of lettuce once and two (two!!) cockroaches scuttled out and away from inside of the container. disgusting. just when you think a salad would be healthy...

Campus Housing: Sims is beautiful- just renovated but the room doors shut automatically so there is no sense of community really

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: There is several options for students of every walk of life and affordability. From the freestanding houses of the Retreat, to the apartment style accommodation's of University Oaks, there is always a place to fall in love with around campus.

Off-Campus Dining: There is several off-campus dining locations that cater towards college students. Prices are cheap, and most stores take our Carolina cash, which is our money off of our student accounts. All in all, the dining here is near perfect.

5 College Freshman

Party Scene: Students here certainly know how to have a good time. We may work hard, but we work in order to party even harder.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: The financial aid process is not an easy one to use. The bursar's office is difficult at best and information on financial aid qualifications are only able to be found after a long time searching.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

If there is one word to describe the experiences you will have at USC, it would have to be "unforgettable." Being away from home for the first time at USC is both exciting and scary at times, but the freedom you get when you come here feels natural. It makes you wonder why they don’t send people to college sooner! Academically, there are courses and professors who can make you look at things in ways you never considered before. Facts and figures will be thrown at you, but some of the professors (and your peers) can teach you a lot about life as well. It’s also a very cool thing to see laid-back professors who will sometimes move their classes out onto the Horseshoe lawn.

On top of this, with such a large student population, you will inevitably form new relationships that will last a lifetime. As at any college, the quality of the experience depends on what you put into it. There are thousands of new people to meet, tons of activities going on, and things to learn both in and out of class. Those who don’t take advantage of these opportunities will not get a lot out of their experience here. Some students get tired of being at USC after a while, and some hate it from the start for whatever reason. USC is not the place for everyone, but overall, students seem to be thoroughly enamored with Carolina and wouldn’t trade their title of Gamecocks for anything in the world. There seems to be an aura of its own inherent to the University, and its welcoming vibe is infectious.
