USF is set in one of the most diverse cities in the country, with its campus being every bit as beautiful as the setting itself. Lone Mountain boasts gorgeous views of the Golden Gate Bridge, the San Francisco Bay, downtown, the Pacific Ocean, and the color tops of many eclectic neighborhoods in the city. On campus itself, you’ll find beautiful flowers, cherry blossom trees, and exotic foliage planted by students and groundskeepers alike. Though many buildings on campus have recently been refurbished, most are eye-catching and distinctive. However, students tend to complain about the interiors of older residence halls, which aren’t typically aesthetically pleasing. St. Ignatius Church, located right at the corner of Main Campus, is known for its unique beauty and its sense of community.

The War Memorial Gym has recently been renovated, in addition to ongoing renovations around Harney. In addition, USF hopes to improve the parking situation in the next few years, wanting desperately to add needed parking spaces around campus. The University is also looking for more ways to improve pedestrian walkways, which will be another important, yet costly, venture. USF is always looking for ways to spruce up facilities on campus, in order to make things more efficient, but also more attractive.

Urban Legends
  • Lone Mountain is haunted by the ghost of a nun who killed herself after being impregnated by a priest.
  • Students at USF are the snobs of the college scene in San Francisco, due to the high price of tuition, private status of the school, and all of the wealthy kids that attend.
  • USF was built on top of a cemetery and not all of the bodies were moved.
Favorite Things To Do
Students at USF can grab a latte or smoothie on their way to class, a bite to eat in almost every building, work out, swim in an Olympic-sized pool, and hear live music all before the sun sets. At night, students can study in the library atrium, check out a student production, or watch a movie on a silver screen in Harney Plaza. On warmer days, most students like to eat lunch outside in Harney Plaza. If it's not raining, the plaza will occasionally feature a live band or DJ, giving students and faculty a musical break between classes. Vendors also use this popular plaza to sell items like jewelry, scarves, and handmade clothing. A student-run farmers' market sets up shop in the plaza a couple of times a year, too. The computer labs are usually pretty crowded, and most students like to hang out in the UC or Wolf & Kettle up in Lone Mountain to study and socialize.

Clubs and Organizations on Campus
There are just over 100 clubs and organizations at USF. They vary in focus, such as academic, cultural, service, social, and special interest. There's WORD Poetry Club, USFtv, the Foghorn (USF's student-run newspaper), Global Medical Brigade, and many more. Most students participate in at least one club, though organizations as a whole are not especially compelling to the average USF student. It's not difficult to start a new club (all it takes is a meeting and some paperwork), but most students don't care enough to do so.
