Facts & Statistics

Tips for Getting In
  • Get experience doing volunteer work.
  • Get recommendations!
  • Higher GPA/SAT scores can increase your chances of receiving greater financial aid.
  • Work social justice and personal values into your essay.
Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Get to know your adviser, and try to keep him or her throughout your entire college career.
  • Greek life has very little presence on campus.
  • If you know you'll get tired of eating the same thing, pick the smallest meal plan (if you're not a freshman), and eat off campus the rest of the time.
  • Most professors do take attendance, and are strict about it.
  • That smell in your dorm room isn't forever.
  • The construction outside of Harney isn't going to end anytime soon.
  • The dorm hallways always smell that bad.
  • USF is a Jesuit Catholic school, but it's very open-minded and accepting in most respects.
  • USF uses a four-unit system (each course is worth four units instead of the usual three), which means you'll take a smaller number of more intense classes. This makes transferring credits to or from another university very difficult for students.
  • You have to take rhetoric and public speaking (it's combined for freshmen), no matter what your major is.
