Facts & Statistics

Tips for Getting In
  • Apply for Early Decision.
  • Ask high school teachers to discuss your character in recommendation letters.
  • Demonstrate activeness in your community.
  • Good grades are necessary, but they're not everything.
  • Include any and all extracurricular/ volunteer work you have participated in.
  • Interview with admissions before applying.
  • Mention any international or travel experiences.
  • Proclaim your passion! It is better to be extremely passionate about one or a few things rather than spread yourself thin, although it is good to have diverse interests.
Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Definitely participate in all parts of orientation. It is a great way to make friends and get introduced to the UPS community.
  • Do not forget your bike. There are plenty of bike racks on campus, and you will definitely need some sort of transportation or know someone who has transportation, as part of living in Tacoma is being around some great places.
  • Do not forget your raincoat. Frequent rainfall is a part of the UPS experience.
  • Remember, the beds provided in the residence halls have extra-long mattresses-bring the right sheets. Also, they are hard and take some getting used to.
  • You are going to work hard here, so get ready for it.
  • You will definitely have plenty of opportunity to play hard, too.
Interviews & Information Sessions
Call the admissions office at (253) 879-3211 or (800) 396-7191 to schedule a visit to campus or to be added to the mailing list. You will receive updates when UPS admissions representatives come to your area. You can also fill out an interest form online at
Campus Tours
The admissions office is open year-round with interviews and tours available Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Overnight Visits
To get the most out of your visit, make sure to go during the week when classes are in session so you can get a feel for what a typical day on the Puget Sound campus is like. There are different tours depending on what you are interested in, such as athletics/recreation or fine/performing arts. You can also sit in on a class, meet coaches or professors, eat lunch with a student, or spend a night in the dorms.
