Campus Food

Campus Food: The food at Market and the Perch aren't AWFUL but they aren't too great either. Market is nice because there's usually a lot of options available. Places like Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Einstein's, and the Cathedral Cafe accept dining dollars which is awesome. And almost every restaurant on Forbes accepts Panther Funds--you load extra cash onto your ID and use it like a debit card.

Campus Food: It's pretty middle of the road as far as colleges go. Market and Perch are overpriced with poor quality ingredients in most cases. The times that they jazz it up are for the prospectives and their parents. Sodexo is also just a crappy company in general especially to their employees. If you can help it, work elsewhere on campus. The one silver lining is the Union's lower lounge and the Cathedral Cafe. These places have more of a reason to be competitive with their business since they don't get as much funny money from our dining accounts. You're better off getting a small dining plan for the times your friends drag you to Market.

4 College Junior

Campus Food: Lots of variety. Healthy options are available which is nice. Difficult to find on campus eateries that are not market or fast food on the weekends.

2 College Sophomore

Campus Food: Options are limited and most of them are not good. The quality and value of the meal plan is horrible.

4 College Junior

Campus Food: The campus food is rather great, especially when compared to other universities.

All students living in residence halls are required to get a meal plan. Each of the plans varies in the amount of meal blocks (a set dollar amount used to purchase meals) and dining dollars (money to supplement the meal blocks) it has. Meal plans are accessible through student ID card at dining halls and food carts. More meal blocks are added with each larger plan. If you don't use up all of your meal blocks each week, they will go to waste.

There are a number of eateries located across Pitt's campus, each set in a different style. Market Central and the Schenley Cafe in the Union are usually the busiest and have a number of different dining options. The all-you-care-to-eat cafeterias boast more variety than any of the other eateries, though students say that the food still gets old quickly. Overall, many students are satisfied with the quality and availability of Pitt's dining services. However, meal plans can get costly. Also, the sporadic hours and lack of a 24-hour dining option means you'll find yourself in Oakland's local restaurants on many nights and weekends. Meal plans do not work at any local restaurants but Panther Funds do, which is money loaded onto your ID card, separate from any meal plan cost, that works like a debit card.
