4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: The only downside to the freshman girls in Holland is the whole no AC thing.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: I don't really pay attention to it since I am not in it.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: Games are so much fun! I enjoy getting to use some of the athletes facilities when they are not

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: just sometimes I get tired of the hustle and bustle of the city.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: There are services available like the shuttle and safe-rider. I usually feel safe walking home from campus at night. Or I just take the bus.

5 College Junior

Overall Experience: I've had 99% amazing experiences with professors that want the best for you. They want to help you learn and grow as a student and more importantly as a person.

5 College Junior

Overall Experience: I'm confident of the workforce value of my degree from Pitt. H2P

3 College Junior

Campus Housing: Dorm life wasn't for me. It's super convenient to be on campus. I only lived on campus for my freshman year.

4 College Junior

Athletics: It's high energy and brings everyone together!

5 College Junior

Overall Experience: I absolutely love Pitt. I love the feeling of being in the city and the pride everyone has for their (our) school. It's such a cool feeling to be apart of. More than that, you know you're getting a good education. It's Pitt after all. H2P

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: There are many programs at Pitt that inform students about the sexual assault statistics in the United States and the dangerous effects of alcohol. Also, there are blue lights around campus and many police officers are always around the city in order to make the students feel safe at all hours.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: So many different courses are offered at Pitt, and although some of the professors are dull or underprepared, most are excellent. The courses are difficult but help students learn so much about their field of study. Classes can be big (up to 400 people), but recitations help students feel more comfortable about asking questions.

5 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Pitt's career center is one of the best in the nation, and I am proud to say I have many resources in helping me find a job after college. The alumni networks are abundant and many internships are offered solely to Pitt students.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: The freshman dorms are small but the community in the dorms is great and everyone is always extremely nice. It is relatively clean and easy to navigate and I'm enjoying my first year experience in my Residence Hall.

2 College Freshman

Greek Life: Greek life is not big at the University of Pittsburgh, and the only reason non-Greeks care about Greek life is to get into parties, which for girls are easy to get into.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: Football games are always fun to attend in the Fall, and everyone has great school spirit. Basketball is Pitt's best sport, and the games are always a blast. There are many opportunities to participate in athletics even if you aren't on varsity sports, and many students partake in this for fun. Pitt is a Division 1 school, and its sports are great and fun to watch.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: The University of Pittsburgh is a great school with so many major options. The career and health centers are among the best in the nation, and everyone at this school makes it so welcoming. During Orientation Week, there are hundreds of ice breaker activities and opportunities to meet new people. Even though Pittsburgh is a big city, Pitt's layout is easy and manageable, and students get free city transportation, making it easy to go out on weekends and explore all that Pittsburgh has to offer. I wouldn't choose any other school after coming to the University of Pittsburgh and I believe it is one of the best schools in the country.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Pitt is monitored by both campus police and city police so there is always a presence of security around. I always feel safe because it is a city and usually there are people around at all times. There is not a lot of talk about crimes that happen on campus. The dorms feel very secure because there is a security guard to get into almost every dorm.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Most of the class that I have taken here at Pitt have been lecture style classes. The classes usually have around 200 students in them and it is difficult to get to know your professor unless you go to office hours frequently. The courses are difficult but not too extreme. You come out of the class having learned a lot. The lab classes are usually pretty boring and long, but overall pretty easy.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Pitt has a lot of different ways that they help you down your career path. I personally have not taken advantage of many of these offerings though.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: I have lived in both Sutherland and Lothrop. Sutherland was great as a freshman because there was a good mix of both girls and guys to make friends with. It was great having private bathrooms. Lothrop is not as social as Sutherland was. It is usually very quiet which is nice for studying. I like that there are single rooms so that I can have my own private space. The bathrooms are usually pretty dirty though.

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: Greek life is not a huge part of campus, and I feel like it is becoming less and less. Many greek organizations are starting to get kicked off campus. There are no off campus houses for greeks, and the University greatly monitors the on campus greek houses and parties. Most of the Greek parties only consist of people who are in a sorority or fraternity.

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: The athletics are a large part of the school since we are a D1 school. The football and basketball teams draw the largest crowds because they are the most well known. Not all students go to the game, but a large majority do. The teams are not always ranked the highest in the league, but they are continuously showing improvement.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: This school has been great so far. They help you to get really involved if you take advantage of all that they offer. I am involved in doing research at UPMC and am a member of Gamma Sigma Sigma which keeps me really involved in the community. I like the programs that they offer and I feel as though they will prepare me well for the future. The classes are difficult, but they are not impossible. I always feel as though I come out of a class having learned a lot.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Pitt is rigorous and challenging and I think, beyond my experiences in the classroom, I have learned about time management, cross cultural communication (Pitt has a huge number of international students), and what it means to work hard to achieve goals. It is a fantastic university and I am very happy that I chose Pitt.

Overall, students agree that they wouldn't trade their Pitt experience for anything. As with most decisions, there are a lot of things to consider. If you don't like living in a city environment, Pittsburgh may not be the place for you. While it doesn't have the feel of New York of Philadelphia, the area is definitely urban. Also, Pitt is a large school—you're in for some big lecture classes and a somewhat overwhelming campus during the first year or so. Everything will seem to get smaller after you've been around awhile, though. Weather can be a concern if you're used to a warmer climate—snow, rain, and wind rule Pittsburgh winters. This is something that you can easily get used to though, unless you're a diehard warm weather fan.

What Pitt does offer is high-caliber academics, plenty of student organizations, and countless opportunities, such as study abroad, cultural activities, and sports. If you're willing to become active on campus, there's a lot more to Pitt than meets the eye. The University's location can also be a great advantage—Pittsburgh itself is a great city that is a positive environment for students to live and learn in, thanks in part to the city being home to a number of colleges and universities. The social scene is always jumping, locals are friendly, and there's always something to do if you explore a little. The best idea is to visit and try to get a feel for the area. You can get the same quality education at Pitt that can be found in many smaller, expensive schools, but here you'll pay less to have a vibrant city right at your doorstep.
