College Sophomore

College Sophomore

Party Scene: I don't go to parties at my school.

4 College Junior

Majors: The school is very good with providing internships and other things like that to students but you have to be very active in searching for one.

3 College Junior

Majors: I haven't had troubles getting into a program but I know of the process which depends on what program a student is interested in.

1 College Junior

Scholarships: The amount of money that tuition is, there should be more access to scholarships for students or more access to financial aid because I think it's not as fair for the school to tell you whether or not you need financial help when in reality everyone does.

2 College Junior

Administration: For the most part the school is very strict on anything even remotely illegal which is a good thing but there are certain things such as visitation or noise violations that do not need to be as strict policies as they are.

2 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: The only reason I think it could be better is because when a student is here year after year, they get tired of the same places that are always here so you really have to go out of the way to get something different or order out but those options are usually more expensive.

3 College Junior

Party Scene: There are a variety of different party scenes it just depends on what you are personally into. From house parties, parties at frats, or small apartment parties. The ones that are free are usually the best because more people tend to show up of course.

4 College Junior

Campus Housing: The housing process is easy to understand and follow. The perks of various things increase as you go up a year and change dorms. In some instances the cost seems too much for what is given but that's based on my personal experiences (especially living in Holland)

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: I definitely think that the school could do a better job with providing information about off campus housing. There is a page that lists apartments for rent and/or sublet; however, those prices are usually higher than what you could possibly find on your own. Parking is definitely an issue, there is hardly ever space, only at certain times of the day. Parking tickets are given way too often to students that usually cannot afford it.

Overall, students agree that they wouldn't trade their Pitt experience for anything. As with most decisions, there are a lot of things to consider. If you don't like living in a city environment, Pittsburgh may not be the place for you. While it doesn't have the feel of New York of Philadelphia, the area is definitely urban. Also, Pitt is a large school—you're in for some big lecture classes and a somewhat overwhelming campus during the first year or so. Everything will seem to get smaller after you've been around awhile, though. Weather can be a concern if you're used to a warmer climate—snow, rain, and wind rule Pittsburgh winters. This is something that you can easily get used to though, unless you're a diehard warm weather fan.

What Pitt does offer is high-caliber academics, plenty of student organizations, and countless opportunities, such as study abroad, cultural activities, and sports. If you're willing to become active on campus, there's a lot more to Pitt than meets the eye. The University's location can also be a great advantage—Pittsburgh itself is a great city that is a positive environment for students to live and learn in, thanks in part to the city being home to a number of colleges and universities. The social scene is always jumping, locals are friendly, and there's always something to do if you explore a little. The best idea is to visit and try to get a feel for the area. You can get the same quality education at Pitt that can be found in many smaller, expensive schools, but here you'll pay less to have a vibrant city right at your doorstep.
