Transportation: Public transportation is free for students, and bikes are the biggest form of transportation in all of Eugene. A car is handy if living off campus to shop, but it is not necessary.

Transportation: The bus is pretty easy to use and has several camps right next to campus and will take you most places you will need to go around town. UO ID cards let you ride for free. There are a few zip car locations close by but they cost money.

It is very convenient to walk everywhere, and almost everyone does it. It is, however, a nice luxury to have a friend with a car. This makes going on errands to the grocery store, the mall, or the airport much easier. Fortunately, because a lot of students are from the Oregon area, you will usually know at least a few people with a car. Eugene is big on bicycling as well. There are many bike paths and lanes around campus that make biking fun, safe, and convenient. Walking, biking, and skateboarding are the most common means of transportation.

If you have a school ID, all the bus services are free. You can't beat that price. Collaboration between the university and Lane Transit District allows students to ride buses for free anywhere in Eugene and some surrounding areas. During popular class hours (especially in the morning), some congestion occurs, with only standing room available. However, LTD has tried to counteract this problem by offering buses every three minutes during peak commute times, and this initiative has been mostly successful.
