Tips for Getting In
  • Apply early!
  • Be involved in high school.
  • Have at least at 3.0 GPA.
Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Football Tickets – Getting free student tickets for the football games is harder than you'd think. If you are really into the games, getting season tickets would be a good idea.
  • Hippie Town USA – Eugene has been compared to a mix of Venice Beach and Berkeley in California. Overall, it's a pretty sleepy town that has a lot of school pride for UO. You will encounter a lot of liberal hippie-type people around town. It all adds to the culture of Eugene.
  • Mary Jane – Marijuana is clearly the most used drug at the UO. It is easy to come by and usually around. However, not everyone participates in smoking pot, and people are not looked down upon if they do not partake in the use of it.
  • Rain, Rain, Rain – It rains nearly nine months out of the year sometimes, which can make it seem gloomy. However, this is why this state is so beautiful and green. If you can't stand the rain, the UO is probably not for you. Then again, it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.
Interviews & Information Sessions
UO Admissions offers information sessions at 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Contact the admissions office at (541) 346-1000 or visit for more information.

You are allowed to sit in on classes and observe, but you will need to contact the specific department directly to arrange this. Contact info for most departments can be found at
Campus Tours
Ninety-minute walking tours are offered Monday through Friday at 8:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 1:30 p.m., and Saturday at 10:30 a.m. You can schedule a visit, along with an information session and/or campus tour, by checking out the admissions website at
Overnight Visits
If you are admitted and choose UO, you will have an overnight orientation session in which you stay in a dorm, but otherwise, UO's admissions office doesn't offer overnight visits. However, if you know a student on campus, you can always ask to stay overnight with him or her.
