The party scene is huge on campus, especially for freshmen. Sororities and fraternities are known to host parties on any night of the week. The most active times of year include football season and move-in weekend, while the nightlife is put on hold during finals week. For those not involved in Greek life, a more casual approach is generally accepted, and weekends are used as time to get out with groups of friends. Couples can expect quality date opportunities, and singles can check out the social scene on campus. The bars around campus are very affordable and see plenty of business on the weekends. Though most people do go out in groups, it is not difficult to meet new people while you are out. House parties are also popular and tend to include drinking. Underage students can go to 18+ clubs, but most go to the same parties as their more senior counterparts. Regardless of age, all OU students are eligible to use OU SafeRide, which gives students free rides to help prevent drunk driving without any punishment or censure.

Club ListingsWhat's This?

Russell's Lounge

If you're sick of frat boys and sorority sisters, and are looking for a more sophisticated clientele, then head on up to the Marriott hotel for a nightcap. The hotel bar offers high-priced drinks with a nice urban feel. The dance floor is large, and on weekend nights, this place gets pretty packed.

Sugers is a favorite stop for guys on campus, for both the cheap beer and the well-liked waitresses.

750-1/2 Asp Ave.

Bricktown Brewery Restaurant & Pub

Bricktown Pub is situated right in the middle of Bricktown, which is a popular place for college students to spend their weekend nights. Downstairs there is a bar and a huge dance floor where club music causes good and bad dancers alike to shake their butts. Upstairs is a little mellower, as this is where local bands perform.

City Walk

City Walk contains seven clubs in one, with each boasting a different crowd and a different style of music. For the '80s music as well as club music fan, City Walk created clubs Oxygen and Boogie Nights. The Safari Bar and Martini Bar attract a much mellower crowd. The dress code is anything but jeans and flip flops, and believe me, you will see a little of everything.

Joe's Taverna

Joe's Taverna is in a good location, as it's on Campus Corner. A daily drink special, and a mixed clientele with a laid-back atmosphere is what you can expect at this hole-in-the-wall bar. The dress code is very casual, and meals typically cost $10.

435 Buchanan Ave.

(405) 447-9282

Library Bar & Grill

The Library has a historic presence in Norman and is nearly as old as the University itself. Styled like an English pub, the Library is small and comfortable, with a wide variety of beers on tap.

607 W. Boyd St.

(405) 366-7465

The Mont

Probably the most popular bar among OU students, the Mont has been around since the 1920s. Specials vary from month to month, but there's always something affordable on tap. Having a drink on the patio when the weather's nice is definitely a must. The Mont is part of OU tradition, housing the "Town Tavern," and displaying football memorabilia from as far back as 1947.

1300 Classen Blvd.

(405) 329-3330

Champions Sports Bar & Grill

The big night at Champions is Thursday, and they offer drink specials on beer to lure in college clientele. In addition to well-dressed sorority girls and beer-guzzling frat boys, Champions also attracts an older, out of college, former frat boy and sorority girl, crowd. Dress code is nicer than casual.

3720 W Robinson St.

(405) 447-7678

Bill's Restaurant Etc.

Bill's is widely regarded as a Frat Bar, popular with the Greek boys. Students on campus go to Bill's for the beer, the people, and the personality. This bar features pool, darts, and karaoke.

1101 Elm Ave.

(405) 364-2530

Bison Witches Bar & Deli

During the day, and until 11 p.m., Bison Witches serves up awesome sandwiches and soup combos, but after hours on the weekends, it becomes one of the most frequented bars in Norman. Dress code is very casual, and they offer daily drink specials.

211 E. Main St.

(405) 364-7555

Brothers Eatery & Pub

This is another historic restaurant and bar, in business since the 1930s. At night, Brothers boasts a great location on Campus Corner and Wednesday night's $10 all-you-can-eat is until midnight. Come early, because this place gets really packed, and although they have a patio where local bands perform, the place itself is relatively small and intimate.

563 Buchanan St.

Greek Parties

The Greek houses throw huge parties every weekend. Members of sororities and fraternities really enjoy these parties, but it can be hard to get an invitation if you are not connected with some in the house.

Friday Night Movies at the Union

The OU Memorial Union Planning Board shows free popular movies just out in theaters on Friday nights.
