Guys & Girls

4 College Junior

Guys & Girls: The typical OU student is your typical university student. They care about classes but don't put in the maximum amount of effort. They're also likely to be on some sort of financial aid, come from Oklahoma or Texas, and want to get a job after they graduate. Most students appreciate artistic endeavors but aren't seeking to challenge societal norms. The average guy or girl here is much more likely to pass up a cultural event for a party or football game although plenty would choose the latter.

OU is a big school and attracts a variety of students. Almost any prospective student will find his or her niche of friends if they just put themselves out there.

Guys & Girls: There tend to be a lot of attractive people of varying types. Since Greek-life is a huge influence here, there are a lot of preppy type (sometimes even dress better than the girls on a daily basis). There are some awkward yet nice types and even a good variety of skaters and so on. So whatever you're into, there's something typically. Guys in frats can sometimes be obnoxious or too into them/sororities/Greek-life so that's a bit of a downfall. Most are pretty respectful though and won't really harass you or anything. There are a lot of funny, outgoing people and all are quite focused and hardworking (but seem to still be figuring everything out). I've even been serenaded in an elevator by two guys for a piece of food or something which was pretty unexpected yet hilarious and flattering. Again, Greek-life is a huge thing here so there's a lot of sorority-type girls here. There are some stuck-up kinds but I've met a lot of awesome, down-to-earth, entertaining girls as well both in sororities and not. On days of classes, big t-shirts, Nike shorts and shoes are basically the uniform and usually no one cares about their looks. You can even get judging looks walking on campus dressed up. Outside of school, OU can be more well-dressed than some other schools especially on game days. Michael Kors and Tory Burch are favorites among the girls. There are a lot of long-distance relationships and the common college "casual" relationships (i.e. trying to be just hook-up but then get emotionally attached and drama ensues). Friendships/relationships usually come from Greek-life, classes, and jobs or clubs. I recommend rushing (whether you join one or not) to meet some really great people and form some pretty good friendships. Most people are really great friends to each other here.

Guys & Girls: Everyone on campus seems friendly enough without being very "stuck-up."

Guys & Girls: There are many students who dress attractively and look nice at all times. There are also athletic students who don't care to dress up everyday there are also poor students who cant afford to dress up every day. I don't think people should be judged by the way they look or dress.

Student Author OverviewWhat's this?

View student contributors
The average student on campus does not know what they want to major in, enjoys procrastinating on homework by spending time with their friends, and loves going to the Caf. There are too many different types of people on campus to define a "normal" student, but the differences among the student body do not stratify people and create cliques. Instead, students are adept at accepting others for their differences, and rarely do people expect someone to be exactly like themselves. Relationships are common and tend to be about having fun together. The student body as a whole remains reserved during classes, but anything can happen at the late-night parties. People that date tend to be involved in the same extracurricular activities or academic majors. While some enjoy laid-back dates on campus, most couples try to make time to get off campus on a regular basis.

Social Scene
A large portion of OU students, especially freshmen, are involved with Greek life and attend parties at Greek houses Thursday-Saturday nights. The campus is dry, but parties near campus almost always have alcohol. During the fall, the parties on football game days are huge and last all day. Campus Corner is a favorite hang out for many non-Greek students on the weekends.
Hookups or Relationships?
Hookups are very common on campus, but relationships are just as common. A lot of OU students find a significant other while at school, and many students get engaged or married before graduation.

Classes! Where else can you talk to someone without a radio blaring and without the pressure that a hall party or bar puts on you?
Dress Code
The dress code varies greatly on campus and depends on the student and their classes. Some colleges, especially the College of Business, expect students to be dressed in business clothes every day. Most students dress very casually for classes, however, and jeans, cargo shorts, and leggings are often worn with campus-affiliated T-shirts. On weekend nights, however, students who are partying dress up.
Did You Know?
Where you meet someone can say a lot about what kind of relationship you might have. Go to bars for fun, carefree flings. Try the library or campus organizations if you want a long-term relationship.
