Drug Safety

{{ error }}
4 College Junior

Drug Safety: I've been invited to smoke pot once by a friend. That's the only mention of drugs on campus that I've seen.

5 College Freshman

Drug Safety: OU does a great job of educating students about the dangers of drugs and alcohol and the consequences of partaking illegally.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Almost everyone is known to drink. But there isn't a bad drinking problem at the school. Seems pretty normal.

4 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: They make us take mandatory drug and alcohol awareness classes freshman year so it shows that they do care.

2 College Freshman

Drug Safety: It's definitely an alcohol-driven campus and no one has treated differently because I don't drink but there's no doubt that I've had to seek out more laid back friends because a good number of students drink on campus.

The perceived presence of drugs on campus is highly dependent on the particular student. If a student seeks to use drugs recreationally, they can find others with similar interests. If a student does not seek out drugs, there is very little pressure for them to do so. Overall, drugs are not a part of campus life. However, alcohol is definitely seen as part of the football season tradition and in the frequent parties for OU students off campus. The University is very concerned about the major health threats that both drugs and alcohol pose to the students who choose to use them. Underage drinking is taken very seriously, and students who are found to have alcohol on campus are punished by both the University and local law enforcement. The same standards apply to possession of illegal drugs.
