Greek Life

Greek Life: Notre Dame doesn't have a Greek Life, rather students are randomly assigned to one of the 28 dorms on campus. People generally grow pretty attached to their dorm and the people they live with. There is a huge sense of pride and family within each dorm and from my experience this dorm lifestyle sort of provided a surrogate Greek Life without having to apply or rush. Personally, this Greek Life-esque community in the absence of an Greek system was one of the things that attracted me to Notre Dame. It's got the connections and family feel without having to be accepted. You are already "accepted" and don't have to prove anything to anyone.

There are no Greek life divisions at Notre Dame, and most students don't really yearn for them too much. Although there's no way to contrast life at Notre Dame with life in a sorority or fraternity, students agree that the dorm atmosphere is a nice substitute that lacks none of the
Greek flavoring.

Dorm pride allows for friendly rivalries and makes up for the lack of fraternity/sorority "cliques." Furthermore, there are plenty of residence hall activities that mirror what you would find in traditional Greek houses.
