Majors: The Mendoza Business College was rated the best undergrad business school in the country. The reputation receives recruiters from all over the country and there are many opportunities. Though they are competitive, internships and jobs are offered from some of the best companies in the country.

Administration: Because so many upperclassmen live on campus, the campus is not a dry one. Therefore, there is no penalization for of-age students having alcohol in their rooms. The male dorms are very lenient for residents of any ages having alcohol and underage students only get in trouble for excessive rowdiness or having hard alcohol out and around. There are no protests or demonstrations except prayer services--which the campus police do not restrict. Additionally, drugs are extremely punishable--regardless of the type.

Parking: There are a lot of parking lots around campus because of the necessity of them for tailgating before football games. Because freshmen cannot drive a car first semester, many students are from places not within driving distance, and freshmen-juniors tend to live on campus there is no need for many to have cars. Therefore, parking is usually pretty open and cheap--except on football weekends.

Off-Campus Dining: Again, being in the Midwest and in a small town there is not much diversity of food in the town.

Diversity: Notre Dame has been notorious for its lack of diversity. Although students are generally accepting of those who are different, the lack of diversity among students makes it so many do not even attend the school. The Catholic identity (80% of students) and its Midwest location make for an attractive school for white, Catholics from middle class families. These students make up most of the population.

Campus Food: Because the school mainly attracts midwestern students--the food is pretty basic. There are a lot of corn-based meals with meat on the side. Finding light things is often difficult, as is variety of cultural foods. However, it gets you full and that's pretty much all you need. There is also a grab-and-go option from the dining hall where you can get food to go during the week, if you're in a hurry.

Off-Campus Housing: You have two options for off campus housing: you can pick the expensive, close, safe, nice houses or you can pick the cheap, old, houses that are in a not-great area and bad for campus. If you're on a budget, living off campus isn't tremendous but if you can afford it--it's great. Regardless, both are cheaper than paying full for living on campus.

Athletics: Notre Dame is all about sports--and not only varsity. Though we have some of the most famed football games in the country. Even more popular than intramural are the inter-hall sports in which dorms compete against each other for a final all-sports cup at the end of the year. We are also the only school besides the military academies to have tackle football as an inter-hall sport. Everyone really rallies behind our varsity teams and takes part in the inter-hall and intramural.

Health & Safety: It is rare that there are complaints about health and safety. In the last two years there have been a handful of sexual assaults and only one on-campus robbery/assault. However, they are very well pursued by campus police and are reacted to well.

Campus Housing: The dorms are the main part of campus life. All dorms are single sex and in the absence of Greek life act as your fraternity/sorority. You remain a member of your dorm even after you move off campus (junior/senior year) and most people live on for their first 3 years. It is difficult to adjust to hall bathrooms and a lack of privacy--but it makes the brotherhood/sisterhood even stronger.

Campus Quality: The facilities are amazing on campus. There are tons of little places to go study in addition to the library. The library isn't the best looking place, but it gets the job done and is to undergo major renovations in the coming years. The facilities range from old and historic, to cold war barrack-like, to new and clean. However, they all have a great look about them and the campus really blends together for a beautiful and unique look.

Drug Safety: Drugs are nonexistent on campus--no matter what type. From marijuana to hard drugs, you see no use in public and hear of it very rarely. All first time drug offenses are punishable by suspension to expulsion.

Administration: My school has several strict policies that are enforced by clubs such as National Honor Society and Beta Club. These policies help to guide students and prevent people from cheating their way through school and receiving honors that they do not deserve.

Majors: I thoroughly enjoy the program at school. The advanced placement classes offer a great opportunity for students like myself to express themselves without having to wait for students that may not be as willing to do so.

Majors: Although I haven't had an internship I am considering getting one in the near future. In my opinion hands on experience at a job while under the guidance of experienced individuals is the best way of combining fun and learning. Tutoring after school especially in math has been one of the few ways that I have contributed my time to others.

Local Area: My city offers a splendid view of something that is hard to find in today's world-natural life. Once can stroll the woods with friends or by oneself while enjoying looking at the animals along the way. The city's climate makes it suitable for almost all sports except for the sports that require extreme weather. The community is average. Most people tend to mind their own affairs and let others tend to theirs.

Transportation: Reaching school is fairly accessible for everyone. School buses, public transportation, and carpooling are economically suitable. The distance to school is short. The average time spent en route is approximately 10 minutes.

Academics: Great professors, but they all tend to be Catholic and conservative. Very kind, but not much engaging discussion with alternative views.

Diversity: If you aren't white, religious, heterosexual, slim, and wealthy, you're going to be an outsider here. There is not only very little diversity, but there is rampant elitism, classism, homophobia, and racism. It's pretty sad.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

"Wonderful," "amazing," "special," "family"-these are the most common words that students use to describe their times at Notre Dame. The University has a unique atmosphere that is embraced by many; the campus is basically self-contained, the dorms are all very close-knit, and there are truly strong connections between students. While the weather may test your survival skills and the administration may try your patience, the Notre Dame experience is unlike any other you'll ever have. The school's tradition and history create an environment where you'll feel welcomed the moment you step foot on campus.

Notre Dame is not an easy school, and it's important to remember that academics are huge. Above all else, you need to be willing to study and focus, or you're not going to make it through the University's workload. Students here are universally dedicated to their studies, and campus life reflects it. This is not a party school. Students may find themselves frustrated by the value system or the lack of outside activities. The best recommendation for Notre Dame is to visit and check out campus life firsthand. Often, the atmosphere alone is enough to sway your feelings one way or the other.
