3 College Sophomore

Party Scene: There is night life, to a point. If not nearby, you can always go to the city. Public Transportation is close by.

3 College Sophomore

Majors: The first internship I had was paid, so that was wonderful. The next one was unpaid. It was a lot of work and one staff person in particular, made my workday hell. Needless to say, I did not stay there very long.

Administration: campus has to be strict regarding drug and alcohol use, as well as students being honest.

Off-Campus Dining: There are a lot of places, but most are all the same. How much pizza, burgers, etc can you eat. The other thing is that most "nice" places do not stay open late. That can be a problem that leaves you with Jack in the Box and McDonalds as your only choices.

Scholarships: Considering its huge price tag, Notre Dame was very generous in the financial package that I received.

Drug Safety: Notre Dame does a great job in maintaining a respectable level of drug safety, educates its students about the dangers of alcohol and other drugs.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: I really enjoy the campus housing atmosphere, very friendly and engaging

3 College Sophomore

Administration: Notre Dame has very high standards for its students, academic and otherwise

Local Area: The surrounding areas are not very safe, especially at night

3 College Sophomore

Diversity: Definitely needs some work, but great potential

3 College Sophomore

Party Scene: A bit difficult considering Indiana's strict underage drinking laws

3 College Sophomore

Transportation: On-Campus Transportation would be nice considering the size of the campus.

Athletics: I love Notre Dame football!!!

Local Area: South Bend isn't exactly a thriving metropolis, but it's okay.

Athletics: Notre Dame's varsity athletics teams are typically vying for conference or national championships and, if possible, intramural athletics are just as competitive as the varsity athletics. So many of the students here starred in sports in high school and chose to attend ND because they preferred to pursue academics rather than go to a small Division I program.

Academics: No university in the world mixes Catholic teaching of the humanities with teachings such as business, science and engineering

Weather: The Winters are almost exclusively below freezing, sometimes below zero. And since Indiana has very little to show for in terms of hills or elevation difference, it can get very windy and the wind chills will dip below zero semi-regularly. The Falls are very nice and the end of the spring semester can be decent, but overall, weather is probably the worst part of Notre Dame

Academics: Not an ivy league, but not community college.

2 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: The midwest isn't known for its food for a reason.

Technology: Computers and assistance are what you'd expect for an expensive private school.

1 College Junior

Diversity: Everyone is white, and mostly religious, and there is acceptance of other life styles to a certain extent, but no one gets judged too harshly for discrimination. Google the notre dame anti-gay comic scandal for a very scary example.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

"Wonderful," "amazing," "special," "family"-these are the most common words that students use to describe their times at Notre Dame. The University has a unique atmosphere that is embraced by many; the campus is basically self-contained, the dorms are all very close-knit, and there are truly strong connections between students. While the weather may test your survival skills and the administration may try your patience, the Notre Dame experience is unlike any other you'll ever have. The school's tradition and history create an environment where you'll feel welcomed the moment you step foot on campus.

Notre Dame is not an easy school, and it's important to remember that academics are huge. Above all else, you need to be willing to study and focus, or you're not going to make it through the University's workload. Students here are universally dedicated to their studies, and campus life reflects it. This is not a party school. Students may find themselves frustrated by the value system or the lack of outside activities. The best recommendation for Notre Dame is to visit and check out campus life firsthand. Often, the atmosphere alone is enough to sway your feelings one way or the other.
