4 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Drugs and alcohol are not allowed on campus per the Student Handbook, so the presence is limited and discouraged.

5 College Freshman

Drug Safety: There is not any use of drugs or alcohol on this campus that I have witnessed. I feel that I am not pressured at all and haven't had, nor wanted, the opportunity to participate in drug or alcohol use.

5 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Never seen anyone high or drunk.

Due to the Declaration of Christian Community (DCC) that all students must sign when attending Northwestern, drug, tobacco, and alcohol use by students is strictly prohibited. While there are a few who choose to break the DCC, for the most part, drugs and alcohol are rarely seen or heard of. The atmosphere created by the absence of these substances is one that is strongly appreciated by students and faculty. It creates a safe environment where drug- and alcohol-related problems are avoided.

Due to the Christian culture at NWC, it is unlikely that there would be much drug or alcohol use—even without the DCC. There really is no “drug scene” at Northwestern, but like any college campus, drugs and alcohol can be found if they are sought out; however, few desire to do so. Likewise, being near the downtown area, there are many bars and clubs, but few Northwestern students ever visit these places. There has never been a heavy party scene at Northwestern, and there likely never will be. While Northwestern is known for having rules that are somewhat strict, students who choose to attend the College appreciate the benefits that come along with the rules and generally do not have a hard time adhering to them.
