Off-Campus Housing: You are not allowed to live off campus until you're at least 21 years old, so most people live on campus for most of their years here.

Party Scene: If you're comparing a prevalence of parties between Northwestern and any public school (and/or most other private schools in the nation), Northwestern's party scene is pitiful. But we do still have some parties going on, and the ones we do have are fun.

Off-Campus Dining: We're about a 15 minute drive from either downtown Minneapolis or St. Paul, and these cities provide more than enough meal variety if you can't find it within a 5-10 minute drive from campus.

Administration: You just need to know what you're signing on for when you come to Northwestern. The campus is dry and drug free, and we do have visitation hours. The vis. hours are reasonable, though, and they've increased the time over the years. Northwestern holds each student to a high standard of law obedience, honesty, integrity, and Christian morals. They are stricter than some, and less strict than others, but overall, the administration is very positive and makes for an encouraging community!

Scholarships: They want to help. Northwestern has a decent amount of scholarships and aid to offer, and they worked with me well for the most part.

Campus Food: There is a variety of food here, so I rarely can get "sick" of anything. Because the food is all a la carte, I can monitor my spending well, but individually the prices seem a bit expensive for most of the food items. If on the freshman or sophomore meal plan, though, you can usually get by just fine without having to add extra funds.

Campus Housing: The campus at the University of Northwestern is absolutely lovely. The grounds and buildings are well kept and sightly and have a peaceful character to them, and the all the dorms provide quite enough space for comfortable living. The campus itself is easy to navigate, and the main buildings have underground tunnels connecting them that come in handy during the cold winter months! Northwestern has a strong atmosphere of Christian fellowship, and there is usually an event or two to attend from week to week. However, the weekends are often quite a bit quieter than the week days due to many students leaving campus.

Guys & Girls: Yoga pants are becoming more dominant on campus which is nice when walking to class.

Party Scene: Frat Row is pretty awesome. It is also known as Stanbridge. There are two pretty huge party houses there, the EH and BM. If you've been to one of their parties you know what I am talking about. If you haven't then you were probably home schooled and there is a reason you weren't invited. Way better party school than Bethel and on a good weekend it rivals the U and St. Thomas.

Off-Campus Housing: All students are required to live in campus housing unless 21, married, or living with parents. Getting an exception to this is rare, so for the vast majority of students living off-campus is not an option.

Off-Campus Dining: Lots of options and lots of variety within 10 minutes any direction.

Party Scene: Not a party school. Fact. Moyer is the "party dorm" if you will, but that basically means people playing music loudly in their room or hanging in the hallway when the power goes out. Bonfires on the island are common.

Administration: Everyone on campus signs the DOCC - Declaration of Christian Community. As a result, there are high standards for behavior. However, this is not enforced an overly legalistic authoritarian fashion.

Scholarships: There are decent academic scholarships, which are not difficult to get and last for four years. The flip side is that outside of the automatic academic scholarships, options and sources of financial aid (NOT loans) get scarce fast. Particularly short of need in the middle class "make too much to qualify for aid but can't actually afford tuition" range.

Campus Food: Generally, food is good though pricey even after student discounts.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Can be a bit cramped, but overall far better housing options than most colleges. The most-dormish dorms feature a full bathroom and kitchenette with three people to a room. Most of campus is apartment/suite dorms. Freshmen are reserved spaces in every building, though the result of this makes the competition for returning students getting preferred housing rather stressful, though manageable by all means. Newer housing options are a long walk from academic buildings.

5 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: There are many very nice, friendly people at Northwestern.

Health & Safety: The campus feels very safe. There's a guard shack at the only entrance to campus; public safety is around, especially at night; and a school id is required to get into the dorms.

Athletics: We recently got a new outdoor sports facility, and there's also a lot of school spirit.

Administration: Northwestern is more strict than many other colleges, but it helps build a positive, safe community.

Off-Campus Dining: Roseville has some hidden gems, but many people drive the 15 min to explore and dine in Mineapolis.

Party Scene: There is not too much of a party scene at UNW, but I had a great experience with the community there.

4 Recent Alumnus

Administration: Most people would say that this University is way too strict- but it was a part of the intentional community of the school. I thought they were very reasonable at reviewing rules and not just sticking to the traditions of the past which I really appreciated.

Scholarships: I had no problem with the financial aid office. They were very understanding and helpful.

5 Recent Alumnus

Campus Food: I thought the food was great at UNW- I had healthy choices and always had many homestyle/comfort options as well. The main thing that I did not like was that freshman and sophomores had extremely large funds. I ended up having to give a lot of food away so that the money would not have been completely wasted at the end of the year.

As a whole, Northwestern is loved by its students. The faculty, programs, students, staff, community, and environment create an atmosphere of love, comfort, and respect. A high level of satisfaction exists because most students chose the College for the high level of Christian education that Northwestern offers.

Northwestern is a place where professors and faculty do not shut down when they go home at night. Professors make themselves available to help and support students all the time, many of them even giving out their home numbers to students in case they should ever need to talk. Nearly all students that attend Northwestern have a deep passion for their faith and are on fire for the Lord. Students and faculty have such welcoming and sincere personalities, which makes it easy to get to know people. Friendships created at NWC are something cherished by everyone. There's not a place on campus where you won't receive a smile or salutation. The light created by the Lord is apparent on this campus and in its students.
