Carolina has a large Greek life scene, although it isn't for everyone. If you have decided to go the Greek route, prepare in advance for rush and your pledging semester because it can be quite tough to manage that and taking on the rigor of academics all at once. UNC has many traditional fraternities and sororites, as well as ethnic and multiculural sororties and fraternites. For those who are looking to just party as part of the Greek system, be aware that it doesn't quite work like that. Instead, students have to do community service, maintain GPAs, be recruited, and do many other activites benefiting the community.
Although at times it seems like most of the student body is Greek, in reality it is only about 12 percent. If you choose not to go Greek, there are plenty of ways to meet people, and it doesn't limit your attendance at parties thrown by the Greeks. Either way, there is a home for every student at Carolina, Greek or not.
