3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: I've heard of people using drugs but never seen it myself and certainly don't feel pressured into using drugs or even going out.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Drug use is not a huge problem on campus to my knowledge. Students are more concerned about academics.

2 College Freshman

Drug Safety: So, the drug scene is not as visual as you expect it to be on a liberal campus. However, the alcohol visibility is intense. Let's just say that first-years are heavy users of alcohol at the Frat parties, and no one bats an eye.

College Junior

Drug Safety: Just like everywhere else, there are people who abuse both drugs and alcohol. If necessary the campus police have them picked up and taken off accordingly. But as shown above, you can have a great social life at school without having to partake of any of these items.

3 Recent Alumnus

Drug Safety: Drinking of all ages runs rampant. I did not notice heavy drug use but that doesn't mean it's not there. Even under the age of 21 I could easily access alcohol if I wanted to.

Students are fully warned of the dangers that drugs can pose prior to their arrival for classes, but some still find themselves caught up in that scene. UNC has made many counseling services available for these students. For example, Student Health Services provides plenty of aid and advice for students to control the partying and addictions that can sometimes come with the college experience. Many students fail to recognize the dangers of certain lifestyles and don't get the help that is being offered to them, but Carolina has a very accepting atmopshere and will always help those who ask for it.

Typically, drugs aren't a problem at UNC. If you are looking for them, they probably aren't hard to find, but if you don't want them, there isn't any reason that you would be exposed to them. The most prevalent drug on campus is alcohol, and while it is abused quite frequently on campus and off, students generally take safety precautions when they are drinking. The second most popular drug on campus is marijuana, and many students find themselvs smoking it. People at UNC respect each other's lifestyles, and if that is the route you choose to go, you won't be judged, but it is advisable to utilize one of the many services that the University provides to make sure it doesn't become a problem.
