Local Area: Very Nice Area – Chapel Hill is nestled between some very gorgeous surrounding areas. There are a lot of nice recreational activities to pursue in nearby areas. It's pretty close to rivals NC State and Duke, though Chapel Hill definitely has the much more scenic campus.

Scholarships: Trustworthy, but Rather Like the Hunger Games – I often feel as if I am another tribute waiting to hear that I will not receive sponsors. Sigh. But I have had a lot of good moments, even with my large bills. UNC is definitely a great buy, and I am blessed to be so well supported, all things considered.

Party Scene: There When You Want It – I definitely feel that the nightlife is blazing just when you are looking for it. As an upperclassmen, fat parties are a bit of the past, but they are definitely always an option. House parties are a popular spot, but the bar scene is where I really run to. Top of the Hill is superb, as is Goodfellows and He's Not Here. The Hill is a great college town, any night of the week.

Campus Food: Top of Lenoir and Mainstreet Lenoir – I am very impressed by how committed Carolina Dining is towards improving the student dinning experience! Options have greatly increased since my first year, and I am excited to hear that we will have even more local and organic options in the coming year.

Transportation: Buses run across campus all day over various routes all for free. there is also a public transit system that runs to neighboring cities.

3 College Freshman

Party Scene: Not That Bad – There are a few 18+ clubs, but most are 21+. Aside from clubbing, there is always something going on on campus

Campus Food: Not That Bad – Dining hall food is consistent. Consistently moderately good, with a few exceptions. On the negative side, anything with banana cooked in it is terrible, but more positively the new sushi option is rather tasty.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: Financial aid is a pain, especially for in state students that have middle class parents. I don't have a job and I need money! Help!

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: This Is Carolina Basketball – Chapel Hill students have so much school spirit and are full of support for all of our sports teams, particularly basketball. This season, our point guard, Kendall Marshall, fractured his wrist and the whole campus has gotten involved in the "Pass Fir5t" movement in which everyone draws Kendall's jersey number 5 on our right wrists in support of the recovery of our irreplaceable player. Go Heels!

Campus Housing: Living in the Mid Campus Dorm – At Chapel Hill, there are plenty of on and off campus housing options. The worst dorms are on south campus and are often known as the "freshmen dorms". North campus dorms are very convenient and close to campus, but I really prefer living on mid campus...it is central to the social scene and directly in the middle of the football and the soccer stadiums.

Diversity: Diverse Enough – A very open-minded school. People of all economic backgrounds, political beliefs, religions and sexual orientations are accepted; however, it is worth noting that UNC students tend to be well off (but not super rich), mostly female (about %60), and are often liberal (including myself).

Campus Quality: The campus is beautiful, the weather is great, and the people are friendly. One of libraries is huge (Davis), while the other is often open all night and is great for studying (UL). The gyms are nice too.

Majors: I'm a freshman and only getting started, but I already love Carolina. My program (English) is a great program within UNC and I'm enjoying my current Comparative Lit class. The classes are engaging (especially the smaller class sizes). UNC is rigorous academically but it is also flexible with workload and has alot of opportunites for help or tutoring. I know the university has an extensive list of work-study jobs on campus.

Off-Campus Housing: Generally convienient with bus stops well-placed. Cost is typically good. Parking can be an issue, especially if around Franklin street. Safety promoted. There are lots of resources for aid or advertisment for apartments all over campus.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Very convienient with the majority just off campus or within a short bus ride. Student discounts at local theater and restaurant with regular places specific to Chapel Hill in which to eat or party.

Weather: Rain, Sleet, Snow it doesn't matter. You can bet you are going to school and that sucks especially because of the long walk from the dorms to the school. Luckily the winter is fairly mild so it doesn't snow or get really bad too often but sometimes it is just plain miserable

3 College Sophomore

Party Scene: It's College – Most people here are definitely the partying type. However, clubs are not the scene. Most people hit up frat parties and house parties most times the alcohol is free especially for those under-age. UNC provides the P2P system for those that need to be picked up instead of having people driving around intoxicated.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Food: Better Than State's – I have never been fond of campus food but I have tried other places and I know we have a good deal here. I think we could use smaller plans for people that might also enjoy cooking their own food but don't necessarily have the time. Menus are okay most of the time but I feel like we eat the same things alot.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Options Galore – Franklin Street is no more than a 30 minute walk from any of the dorms, 20 if you walk fast as I tend to do. Once there, there are many options to choose from. Plenty of locals places with no major chains on the main drag.

4 College Sophomore

Technology: You do have to have a personal computer to attend. Though they give generous financial aid to make sure this happens. The biggest complaint some people had was the lack of Mac support which was changed this year. Though the ones offered through the campus are expensive, I would recommend them as the warranty and support can't be beat.

5 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Safety Services – I have never had any issues with crime or campus police. As long as you pay attention to your surroundings and stick with people when it's late you shouldn't have any problems.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Drug Scene – Alcohol and drug use is definitely present but doesn't dominate campus life and there isn't much peer pressure

Off-Campus Dining: Franklin Street – The food on Franklin Street has many options although it can be a bit pricy

3 College Sophomore

Campus Food: Good Not Great – The dining halls have a variety of options but the quality isn't great

3 College Freshman

Party Scene: Good Depending on Your Taste – There's always something going on at UNC, however, I think it's difficult to find a good scene for underaged students or people without much of an interest in alcohol.

UNC is known for its great academics, abundant research facilities, and storied athletic programs. Students who are priviliged enough to attend Carolina are happy with their choice even though it may not always have been their dream. UNC has been in the top five public schools in the country for the past eight years, and it is considered a "public ivy," so it's no secret that the quality of education at Carolina is far above average. Students at Carolina are continually pushing borders, experiencing new things, and becoming individuals.

At the end of their collegiate careers, many boast of having had the best four years of their lives in Chapel Hill, and that is evidenced by the overwhelming alumni support. UNC will prepare you for what is to come after the beautiful undergraduate years under the perfect Carolina blue sky. But most importantly at Chapel Hill, it is important to cherish every moment because four years fly by, and the college experience is soon over. One of the best things about Carolina is the immense school pride with which the stuent body lives as Tar Heels. Sure, college will be difficult. There will be failed exams and broken hearts, but there will also be experiences that you will never forget—weekend trips with your friends, late night yo-po runs, foam parties at Pulse, Holi Moli, and many others. When you attend Carolina, you will receive a quality education and a great college experience.
