Guys & Girls: There isnt too much to say: UNCW is a beach school. A lot of the people here are from in state and enjoy the warmer weather and what it has to offer; so you see nice tans, well toned bodies, and a lot of athletic looking students

Diversity: there really isnt too much ethnic diversity other than the foreign students themselves, but as far as religious backgrounds go i feel like there is a general christian affiliation, but not so much a specific denomination.

Scholarships: Financial aid is difficult to get through, especially for out of state students. I recommend applying for work study asap, because if you wait all of the spots will be gone before you get a chance to apply.

Technology: They have from basic Dell computers to top notch Mac's. The school offers laptops to rent for 4 hours for free (included with the tuition and fee's) and once those 4 hours are up you can go back and check it out. Printing services are in every building and an ease to access. Computers at the library get crowded sometimes but not often. You can access a computer anytime around campus.

Off-Campus Dining: Everything is right across the street from campus including all the fast foods you can think of to all the restaurants you can thinks of such as Red Robin, Outback, Panera, Olive Garden. Everything is close by or a 10 min driving distance. The number 1 go to place for UNCW students is Cook-Out. Its basically on campus but not part of campus making it off-campus. I walk there or drive there all the time. It's cheap and opened all day and night except from 5-7am.

Campus Quality: I'd have to say that the amount of opportunities offered at UNCW is what sets it apart from other Universities. You can get funding for any clubs or orgs you create. We have a very competitive nursing program. UNCW is also known for it's great Marine Biology programs/facilities along with its growing Psychology program. Business and Computer Information Systems are a close second and are great programs to study at this school.

Campus Quality: Campus overall is well taken care of and they do a good job at maintaining facilities. Rec center just tripled in size and is pretty new. There are computer labs in each building. Food is pretty good, they have Subway and Dunkin; basically stuff like that. Event wise they could be better. THey often try to promote and create cool events. It just lacks that spectacular factor. Besides that CIS building is super tech, Education building is cool, and campus is very spacious and open.

Technology: There is always convenient computers and printers available to students. Computers are located in every housing building, library, and of course the computer building. Everyone receives fast wireless access wherever they are on campus.

Diversity: If there is one thing that UNCW strives for, it's diversity. Everyone is accepted here, no matter what background he/she has. There are many programs that work to involve all students and have students learn about different cultures.

Off-Campus Dining: Dining places off campus are extremely convenient for students who have hungry stomachs and living on a tight budget. Though many late night options may not be the healthiest and the best cuisine ever, it is still pretty delicious. Restaurants around Wilmington provide a wide diversity in selection and is always tasty. Best of all, Cook Out is right next to campus and is popular especially for those late nights.

Guys & Girls: Lots of diversity with the UNCW community. Everyone has their own style and no one will judge you. Very welcoming community.

Greek Life: I rarely hear of Greek life, nor are non-Greeks every invited to these functions.

Local Area: There is the beach and nearby shopping centers and activities, and msot people can feel safe here.

Athletics: No football team, the basketball team is alright but not amazing. There is very little funding because of the lack of football team, however some teams are very pitifully funded or rewarded for their efforts.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: The campus is small and therefore easy to walk everywhere, however finding or being allowed parking passes is an absolute nightmare, especially for athletes living off-campus. Social atmosphere is not as friendly as one might have expected from a southern school.

5 College Freshman

Campus Quality: we have a stunning campus. So many places to sit quietly. Amazing recreation center that will include an outdoor swimming pool this Spring.

Majors: I enjoy all my classes. Have not declared my major yet but it will be in Biology. I want to go on to Grad School for Animal Science and then go on to Animal Nutrition. Want to work at Disneys Animal Kingdom.

Weather: The weather here is always nice and manageable. It doesn't snow and it doesn't rain that often either. Although when it does rain a lot of places around campus get flooded because of the poor draining systems. In the summers it does get very hot and muggy but the beach is always a nice option when you're not in class! Spring and fall are always the nicest times of the year.

Weather: For the most part the weather at UNCW is warm and manageable. However, there are many times when it rains. It can be sunny one moment on campus and the next there is a downpour that completely drenches you on the way to class. Besides the rain, the weather is amazing her at UNCW.

Health & Safety: As a student at UNCW, I know that I want to be safe in everything I do. There has not been a time on campus where I haven't been safe because there are emergency buttons all over campus. The Campus Security is always on task and as long as you do the things you are supposed to do you will be able to live with good health and safety at UNCW.

Drug Safety: At UNCW the drug scene is kept on the down low. I, myself, am not the kind of person who takes part in either the partying or the drug scene. However, most of the time people are drinking rather than doing drugs. Drugs do still exist on campus, but not in a very outspoken way so that everyone knows about them.

Campus Food: Many different dining options conveniently located

5 College Freshman

Majors: So many majors to choose from and a great resource center to help you with your major choice as well as help you find a job.

5 College Freshman

Campus Quality: UNCW really helps you step outside of your comfort zone and pushes you to be the best person you can possibly be. There are many different programs such as the study abroad program which help you learn about different cultures and experience them first hand

5 College Freshman

Campus Quality: UNCW's campus is small enough so that you won't feel like you're lost but big enough to meet new faces everyday. The campus is wonderful if you like to walk, ride a bike, or long board. The students and staff are always willing to help and everyone is super friendly. There are a lot of different course and major offerings and you will never be bored.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

UNCW offers students a unique, one-of-a-kind university experience, with the combination of its state-of-the-art facilities, well-established programs, location, priority of placing students first, and constant growth. The University is quite young compared to other schools, but it's already ranked right up there along with the best public universities. So much expansion, creation, attention, and credibility has been gained since UNCW's start, and more amazing feats and accomplishments are inevitable for the University's future. Small class sizes, expert professors, and large major varieties bring students of all types to campus. With around 13,000 students total at UNCW, it's the perfect size for those interested in a medium-sized school, and it fosters a unique dynamic. Students have the opportunity to meet someone new every day if they want to, but UNCW is small enough where there is a focus on individual student showcase; students don't have to worry about being lost or overshadowed.

UNCW really gives students all of the tools for success through classes, cultural events, networking opportunities, academic programs, and career developmental training, but it's up to the student to take advantage of these offerings. UNCW can be the perfect fit because of this incredible attention and genuine care for students. The size of the University is right, and the inviting, welcoming atmosphere creates a home for students; everyone can be a part of the University and is encouraged to reach for their aspirations. The campus motto is "Dare to Soar," and UNCW actually means it and follows through with this encouragement. A top choice time and time again, UNCW allows students to go above and beyond just learning in the classroom and makes hands-on, realistic experiences possible. The University is a hidden gem, but is growing every day to gain more national acknowledgement. UNCW is a wonderful place of acceptance and growth, both in the campus and its ambitious students.
