4 College Junior

Campus Food: I'm pleased to say that the options are not TOO limited. And there are plenty of places to stop that are very close to campus in case you aren't feeling what there is on campus. (Unless you're a freshman and without a car! Ha!)

4 College Sophomore

Campus Food: At the beginning of the year I definitely went to the cafe a lot since I was on a meal plan and I was working on saving my money. Although after a while the food started to become the same and I got tired of it, when spring semester came around the cafe started implementing not only a new layout, but new food options as well. I like the fact that you can take surveys about how to better the cafe and what kind of food options we would like to see more of. Overall, I really enjoy the atmosphere and the variety of foods that my school has to offer.

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: The food on campus was pretty good. The only problem was that everything closed so early, especially on the weekends.

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: The Caf food isn't terrible, although there isn't a ton of variety, but I know they do the best they can. I love that there are so many places on or around campus to get food.

3 College Student

Campus Food: It kind of already sucks that college is super expensive, but what makes it more worse is the food. Me personally I love food!! and it sucks that UNCG does not have good quality. I really miss my mom cooking

The Caf—as the main dining hall on campus has come to be known—is definitely not a favorite among students, but it isn't for lack of trying. Everything from hot breakfasts and cereals to burgers and fries to pizza and pasta to sandwiches and salads is available, but the quality of taste is about equal to what you could find in your high school's cafeteria. Not to mention, the bulk of the food available isn't exactly healthy. That's not a good thing when the Caf is your main source of food—and it will be when you're a freshman. The good news is that every meal plan comes with a "declining balance"—a portion of money that is included in the price of your meal plan that you can spend freely at the campus food court, coffee shops, convenience stores, and restaurants. The only bummer about declining balance is that it is a small amount of money during your freshman year—usually only around $75 to $150. When you move up in class ranking, you can choose a meal plan based on how much declining balance you want. This is why you generally only see underclassmen eating in the Caf.

The food court is a hot spot for students with declining balances to burn, and there is definitely a lot to choose from. You can enjoy food from several different familiar restaurants. Fair warning, though: It can be difficult to find somewhere to sit during the lunch hour (usually 11:45 a.m. until about 1 or 1:30 p.m.).
